I know it's a little crazy to have one of these so soon after my Spring Cleaning update but I wanted to clarify something for all the people that have been PMing me to ask various questions. None of the questions were those listed here, but some things were insinuated that this is how things are and I wanted to make it clear that these things are not true at all and you don't need to concern about them.
1.) "Someone already has a similar ability/look, so I can't have it."
Absolutely false. There is no where in the rules stating that gifts can't be similar or looks can't be similar. Now, we don't want any identical characters, of course, but so far, everyone's been really good about having enough quirks and interesting things about themselves that there are no "Siamese twins" in the forums to date. If there is an issue that you're too close to a character? A mod will inform you and you will be given opportunity to make any alterations then. There's no reason for you to avidly search for anything similar to your character in fear that you'll be accused of cheating. Sometimes great minds think alike. It happens once in a while. Don't stress about it.
2.) "I can't have more than one character from (place)." or "I can't have threads in more than one country at a time."
Absolutely false. Again, there are no rules limiting this in the least. If you have a lot of muse for one country over the others? That's fine. Everyone's different. Someone else is going to have more muse for that other country. Now, if we get out of balance, there will be limits made temporarily to get us back on track, but for now, we only have around forty characters. There's no reason to limit anyone just yet.
3.) "I've received critique on an ability or character; obviously the idea was bad."
Absolutely false. When an idea is not doable? Rather than a critique, usually we will offer you another idea based on the history and personality you put forward in a character. We have, as of yet, not had ANY character that has been unacceptable. We have had to make small clarifications and sometimes big ones depending on the character itself, however, that does not mean we do not like your concept or that we aren't willing to work with you.
The best way to get a character approved is to cover a lot of detail and make sure it's well rounded out and just flows well.
The best way to make sure your gift goes through is to consider the God that is giving it. Each available gift giving god has a profile in the Divinity section of Information and as long as it does not go directly against a God's creed to grant a gift, we can usually find reasons to allow the gift/appearance/other point of interest. You just have to be a little flexible.
Sorry for the announcement but I feel like some people are stressing because they're afraid of these ideas and there's no reason to. These might be issues on other sites, but here they aren't even being considered at the moment, and if they are, you'll be forewarned. Here, it's just as much about common member understanding as it is about us Admins and Mods.
