She slowly opened her eyes and was surprised when there were no more thugs just the man from before. She looked at the guys on the ground beside her. Her eyebrows raised a little before she slowly stood and looked at him. She hadn't expected to see him there. Anora saw him offer the knife. She looked at it before slowly taking it from him. "Um thanks." She wasn't use to someone acting like this. She slowly picked up her bag and the things they had thrown on the ground while going through it. She didn't notice that she was bleeding a little.
Anora kept glancing at him now and then. She was not sure what to think now. "So you weren't really here to hurt me..." She finally said. It was kind of her way of saying thank you. It wasn't like she knew what to think right now. She had no idea what was going to happen. Maybe he had only saved her so he could kill her himself. She had kept off the radar of most of the gangs but with the four laying on the ground. They would be found and their group would come looking for whoever did.
"We should get out of here." She said putting her bag over her shoulder. "People will come looking for these four and you don't want to be around when they get here." She picked up her bow. Anora had forgotten her shoes from before. She was use to walking through the city without shoes. She went to the end of the ally and looked around making sure no one was coming or that anyone had seen what had happened.
She walked back over to him. "Listen, I know you aren't from around here. I think you should go back to your home. People here don't really like new people. Plus if they find out, you can fight...or have any special skill, they'll track you down." Anora was trying to be helpful though she didn't know if he would listen to her. She acted so much older than she really was. She didn't know anything about the world outside of Zhadrah. She barely knew there was anything out there. She had heard stories from people but then again she didn't even know that she and rest of Zhadrah had been frozen for years. She had been fourteen for a long time and had no idea.

He didn't know what else to do besides stand there not knowing what to do. The girl took the knife from him, though, so that was a good sign. She wasn't running away from him. Also good. His bright eyes scanned the bodies scattered around them before returning to the girl as she thanked him, her words holding an air of uncertainty.
She moved to retrieve her bag that had been tossed aside in the scuffle, and Grayson took a step away from it, in case she still thought he had ill-intentions. So you weren't really here to hurt me... The young Speaker shook his head. "That's not my job," he said with a shrug. "That's not my job."
We should get out of here. People will come looking for these four and you don't want to be around when they get here. Grayson scanned the bodies again, trying to pick up on a trait or characteristic that would make them worth coming after. From what he'd gathered of this country, the people here weren't affectionate; they didn't love - not like the people of Hryst.
The girl was already packing up her things and grabbing her bow before he had a chance to speak. Listen, I know you aren't from around here. I think you should go back to your home. People here don't really like new people. Plus, if they find out you can fight, or have any special skill, they'll track you down.
Grayson shook his head. "They can't hurt me." While he wasn't sure if it was completely true, he sure could get away before anyone tried to hurt him. And he could take the child with him... If she'd allow it. "So you must be different then. If they came after you, right?"
Wherever she would lead, he would follow. She knew the country better than he, and so she would have to take the lead. "I'm not exactly normal, either," he added on, as if the girl hadn't already gathered that from his little show. Her eyes had been closed though. How much had she seen?

She looked at it him. They can't hurt me. She shook her head and sighed. "That doesn't mean they won't try." They started to go. Anora had another hiding place that she led him to. When he asked that she must be different she shook her head. "No I don't think I am. I steal to get by and have killed before as well. I doubt I am any better than the rest in this place. She slowly moved the boards aside to get into the room. She let him in before walking over to a table and picking up a flash night. She turned it on and the set it down so it would shine up and they could see better. She sat down and started to clean her feet. She hadn't gotten her shoes back.
Anora pulled some other shoes out. "You are different?" She was being sarcastic. Anora had noticed that he was different. She could tell just by the sounds she had heard from the fight. He had appeared in her room as well when no one but a small person like her could have slipped in without breaking something down. Oh yes, she knew he was different but what made him think that she was so different? He didn't know her that well. He had only found her in her room before seeing her get attacked.
She watched him. "I'm Anora by the way." She couldn't remember if she had actually introduced herself. She didn't think so. She had been too worried that he was going to hurt her to give him her name. Maybe she thought that he already knew it because he had showed up in her room for no reason. "Where are you from?" She knew there were places beyond Zhadrah. She remembered hearing about people showing up there but she didn't remember when that had happened or what the names of the other countries were. She pulled one of her legs close looking up at the odd man. He was different but she wasn't afraid of him now.

That doesn't mean they won't try. She didn't seem to quite understand. "They can try all they want..." he said with certainty and then repeated himself: "They can't hurt me."
He was quiet as they walked, moving without making a sound, something that had just come to the young Speaker naturally - almost as naturally as breathing or blinking.
No, I don't think I am. He tilted his head to the side, bright blue eyes fervently studying the child. She was lying to him. They had reached some place that he didn't know, which wasn't surprising seeing as he was in a very unfamiliar country... Was he even supposed to be here at all?
There wasn't anything saying that he couldn't explore this world.
The girl continued on talking in a kind of hushed tone as she shuffled around some boards, telling him that she stole to survive and that she had killed before. I doubt I am any better than the rest in this place. Ducking through the doorway she had just cleared, he stepped into another room that looked like it had either been put together in a hurry, or like it had been slowly pieced together as the bits and bobbles of necessity were found. Grayson wasn't judging one bit, however. At least she had a place that she could go to, even if it happened to be multiple places. He had nothing.
The tone in her voice when she questioned him being different was something he'd heard before, but hadn't quite mastered yet. So instead of saying anything that could give away his naivety about the subject matter, he shrugged a shoulder and sort of nodded.
He knew he'd done more than he should have to prove that he was different than most the rest of the world's population.
I'm Anora, by the way. Where are you from? The young Speaker had settled in a sitting position near to her, but not too close to cause the girl - to cause Anora to worry about him hurting her. He gave her a lopsided grin. "I'm Grayson, and it's obvious I am not from here, huh?"
With a small shake of his head, he answered her question simply. "Hryst, another country. The people there are much nicer..." Then he trained his bright blue eyes on Anora and asked, "Why did you lie to me? You are different, why lie?"

Anora couldn't help but smirk when he said it was obvious that he wasn't from there. "You wouldn't have stuck your neck out for me if you had been from here." No one did that. Anora did it occasionally when it came to her gift but she couldn't go around showing it off or someone would go after her about it. She picked up a box and started looking at her supplies that to clean and cover the wound she had gotten from the thugs.
She spilled on some shoes as he spoke. He told her where he was from and it sounded kind of familiar but she couldn't remember where she had heard it from. She slowly leaned against the wall when he asked why she had lied her eyes fell on him. She didn't think she had lied. Why would she lie? What did he like she was lying about? She blinked a little bit. Could this be about her gift? How would he know about that? Was he lying to her as well just to get her trust? Why would he do that?
"Um I don't understand what you mean?" She asked watching him. She was confused. Anora hadn't kept anything from him but he was acting as if she had.

You wouldn't have stuck your neck out for me if you had been from here. He nodded at her words. From what he had seen of the country thus far, she was right. It was so bizarre to him - so very strange to the young Speaker. His bright blue eyes watched her as she rummaged through a box or two, searching for something. Tending to her wound, Grayson's attention strayed to the room around him. A mattress was shoved against one wall; the entire room seemed to be just one shady place.
And if Gray thought it was sketchy, it was most likely pretty freaking sketchy.
At least Anora had shoes again. That was good. However, when confronted about lying to the Speaker, she claimed to not know what he was talking about, telling him that she didn't understand what he meant.
Grayson was quiet for a moment. He had never had to explain what exactly it meant to be different... "You're one of the people they hunt," he said, nodding his head towards the door at the word they, "right? Someone with abilities." He had made sure to drop the volume of his voice with the last sentence. He didn't want trouble finding her again so soon after their recent run-in.
"Usually the ability is bestowed by a divinity. I know you are different. I can feel it. Even thought you are not from my country, I can feel it."

Anora was tying her shoes when she heard what he said about her ability. Her eyes snapped up into his face suddenly. "You shouldn't know that." She had been very careful when it came to her gift. She needed to make sure no one knew. He kept talking about how he could feel it. Where there more people like him in the country that could feel that she had a gift? Her eyes fell on the bow. She thought about picking it up and shooting it at him. She took a deep breath and relaxed. She pushed her hand through her hair a little bit. She finished tying off her wound before looking over at him.
"Yes I have an ability given to me by the goddess of this country. I am not sure if it was worth the thing I lost for it though but then again I can't remember what it is I gave up for it." She looked down a little sad. Anora hadn't wanted to talk to him about this but for some reason she felt at ease with him. She looked up at the ceiling. She knew it was getting late and it would be dangerous to go out into the streets now. The gangs would be looking for the people that killed their members. "Look you can stay here tonight but in the morning, I would leave if I were you. Someone probably saw what you did and you won't be safe here."
Anora didn't know why she even helped this guy when it came the rules of the street. He needed to be careful. He claimed that no one could hurt him but she had heard that before from others that wanted to help her. She felt like if he stuck around he would get hurt. He would die and the last thing she wanted was another death when she might have been able to help. She leaned back against the wall a little pulling her legs close and her jacket. The night was always really cold for some reason. Maybe it wasn't cold. Maybe her loneliness made her feel cold and numb inside. She put her face on her knees and watched the door.

Had she moved any faster, Grayson was sure the girl would have hurt herself. You shouldn't know that. His head tilted slightly to the side at the tone her words carried. It was harsh, but also held hints of fear. "Why not?" he said with a shrug. It wasn't even really a question. As a Speaker, he just knew things and he had grown rather used to not being able to explain things he knew, or even things he didn't know.
He watched her tend to her injury and listened when she spoke. He was good at that. Listening. Anora explained where her ability came from, and he resisted the urge to just beam knowing that he'd been right. The spark in his eyes was enough, though. He knew he'd been right.
Look, you can stay here tonight, but in the morning I would leave if I were you. Someone probably saw what you did, and you won't be safe here. He shook his head. "I told you," he said once again, "They cannot hurt me." His blue eyes studied her for a moment before saying, "I'm Brynne's Speaker, of Hryst."
"Thank you, but I'm not afraid of anyone here. I'll leave now." With that, Grayson gave the girl a small wave goodbye, a smile to accompany it, and then vanished from sight.
