CPT. STORY EVE LUMINUS Fresh air. It was no surprise that as soon as she had seen Charlie's darting, studying eyes her eyes thinned and stabbed at him like a dagger. Fool... He should know who's presence he was in. The Captain was never one for armor besides when she had to wear it for hierarchy purposes. The clad, crested, symbolic plates that covered her heavily from head to toe were not her favorite. Slowed her down.. she preferred her speed and, more importantly, her flexible freedom in confrontation.
She grabbed the knife and turned around towards the rest of her office - walking across it and beckoning him to follow as he asked what they'd be speaking about. Story put a flat palm to one of the large doors that led to the balcony, pushing it open and making the transparent drapes lightly dance in the breeze. She opened the other one as well - creaking at their weight and size as they slowly gave a way for them to step out.
The balcony, made of white stone and plenty stories above they city with a view towards the sea, was half-circular in shape. She rested her hand on the rail, smoothly sanded, and observed the knife in front of her face with her other. "I want to talk about you, thief," she'd address him as that... until he proved himself otherwise. Maybe it'd get on his nerves. It was supposed to. "Tell me.." her voice wasn't aggressive. Quite the opposite. Honest. "Why is it you steal?" she turned her eyes towards him a moment before looking back out to the sun setting against the blue waves.

Charlie watched her walk through the big doors out onto the balcony. He stuffed his hands in his pockets and walked after her slowly. With her having his knife, he was pretty much defenseless. Of course, he was pretty much defenseless against her even if he did have it. And they were too high up for him to safely jump to escape. At least if he jumped straight out. He looked to either side of the balcony and saw there were a few places he could jump to if he had to escape. There wasn’t much else though. He’d just end up getting hurt if he tried going to another building.Seeing no other way out, he looked back at the… rather scary yet still hot captain as she said she wanted to talk about him. He noticed she didn’t use his name but it didn’t really make much of a difference. He was used to be called a lot of things and thief was actually one of the better options. At least she didn’t know too much about him. If she did, he wouldn’t be standing here talking to her. He’d be serving time in a dungeon. “Tell me, why is it you steal?”He shrugged a bit and walked toward the rail looking out at the water. “I steal cuz I like making the guards angry.” He smirked a bit. He knew it probably wasn’t the best idea to be a smartass and provoke her but that wouldn’t stop some comments slipping out. He kept his eyes on the water. “I steal because it’s fun. And because it’s easier to do that for money than it is doing something else. I can get easy money from it.” Plus, when your father pushes you away and lets your sister die, there isn’t much of an option. He wouldn’t say that out loud, nor would he ever admit to having a daughter, at least to someone who didn’t need to know. And this captain of the guard did not need to know. He didn’t look at her as he leaned forward putting his arms on the rail. “You have this whole area up here to yourself. If it were me, I probably wouldn’t leave. You can see so much of the city.” LAIKA OF GS!

CPT. STORY EVE LUMINUS Not so different The view of the blazing sun setting and lighting the river with orange, reflective fire was both beautiful.. and bittersweet. Story hated the sea. She used to love it, adore a short fishing trip on the bank of a sandbar or the edge of a dock. The sun moreso - an image of every setting and rising day of Brynne's great---... "mercy".. Perhaps that wasn't available for Story anymore.
'I steal cuz I like making the guards angry.' At least he had a sense of humor, as dry as it was. In a rare reaction, the Captain smirked and huffed very slightly from her nose. It was a response that she should have respected from any healthy adolescent - the need to rebel and provoke. That wasn't unusual. It was when he spoke of fun and making easy money that she let the knife dangle between two knuckles and tilt her head over to him.
Her reply would wait, though, until he finished speaking his mind. "It is quite the view," she nodded, looking back outwards to what remained of the sun's edges. "A grand city.." her voice softened, a growl almost coming with it as it tried to find a middle-ground of whispering and speaking. She tapped the blade of the knife lightly against the stone railing as she pondered.
What could she relate with?.. "I once raided our neighbor's chicken coup with my sister," a nostalgic ghost of a smile appeared on her face, "-filled the bottoms of our shirts with eggs to carry away and the dog woke.. barking and howling.. we were covered in ruffled feathers from head to toe by the time we ran - ohhh we got into so much trouble," a chuckle then, watching the sun pass through the sea's horizion.

Charlie’s eyes turned toward the captain when she started speaking about her and her sister raiding a chicken coup. He could see the small smile appear on her face. Well, at least she wasn’t always scary dragon lady. He smirked a bit. He tried imagining the captain as a young girl though it just looked strange in his head. But he hadn’t heard anything about her having a sister. His mind wandered a bit thinking about who she could be. Was she like the woman next to him? Or was she different? That might be something interesting to find out. He stretched a bit and looked up at the darkening sky. “Well, no one said that chicken coups were so easy to take from. Just gota make sure the dog is away.” He smirked at her. “It’s kinda hard to imagine you doing anything even remotely illegal. You’re a pillar of shining light to show us dark spots the way out.” He was teasing a bit pushing the limits once again. He couldn’t help it even if she was still holding and playing with his dagger. He knew at any moment she could toss him down into a cage. Or worse, off the balcony. He expected better outcomes from being tossed off the balcony at least. Broken bone or two but maybe he’d get away at least. Well, depending on the landing. He once again looked back out at the city. He’d only been here for a few years but it felt more like home than any place he’d been. And a lot more than where he was born. That house could burn to ashes and he wouldn’t even flinch. His father too. If he never saw that man alive he would be happy. If he did, there might not be a chance of him living much longer. Charlie didn’t like fighting or killing but he hated his father more. His smirk had disappeared as he thought about his father. LAIKA OF GS!

CPT. STORY EVE LUMINUS Hmph... It was clear in her peripheral vision as she leaned her elbows along the stone railing that he was interested, if not intrigued, by her little tales of years gone by. The thoughts of her baby sister bopping about, tugging her hand to make her bend down and hop on her shoulders began to flood her memories. Etro.. It simply couldn't be that way any longer. When would she grow old enough to realize that?.. They weren't children anymore.
When the thief spoke of him being a 'dark spot'.. with her as the shining 'light' of Hryst's virtues and morals, Story turned her head with a rather annoyed expression and testing eyebrow tilting upwards with a severely angled form. Story turned her body and put one elbow on the rail, the other dangling at her side now as she looked at him - as if to say a silent 'oh really?'.
Within the blink of an eye she unbent the resting arm and shot it out, gripping her hand around the collar of the back of his shirt before lifting him straight into the air and tilting her head calmly up at him. "Is that so, 'Dark Spot'?... You know what I do to things that I think are darkening my people?" she kept her brow raised, edging closer to the balcony's drop and holding him there... Testing his response.
Would he stay quiet? Would he become frightened, angry, remorsefull? Of course, the Captain had no intention whatsoever of harming the young lad... but being scared straight never hurt a damn thing.

Sudden movement caught Charlie by surprise. Then his feet left the floor. Instead of looking out at the now dark city, he was looking into a rather annoyed face of the captain. He had wiggled slightly when she first lifted him into the air, not expecting the abrupt movement. “Hey what the-“ As his face turned to the captain, he calmed down a bit. He looked back behind him at the city below. If she decided to drop him, he had quite a fall ahead. But if he was lucky, he’d be able to just break a bone and catch himself on something. Or he’d be unlucky and end up skewered or splattered on the ground. He turned his face back to her. He almost didn’t care if she dropped him. Almost. At least that’s what he was telling himself. Really, he didn’t care about himself much at all. He was more concerned with who would take care of the gang. His face stayed flat as he looked back at her. “Yeah, I’m a dark spot. I’ve been a dark spot for a while. Go ahead, drop me. It’ll be one less point on your papers to deal with.” He was still being defiant though he knew what could happen. He stared right at her as he tried to grasp for something to think about. Just one thing came to his mind, his daughter. He still hadn’t met her. But he also knew he couldn’t. Not now. Not for a long time. It wasn’t safe for her to know about what her parents did. Did he regret not knowing her? A bit. If he fell, at least she wouldn’t have to worry about having his shadow looming over her. LAIKA OF GS!
