I AM A MONSTER - I'LL DEAL Zero hated this feeling, she prided herself on never having a mark on her skin from a blade and yet here she was. Bloodied and bruised and stumbling through the forest hoping to find water soon. She couldn’t ask the villagers for help, how could she when she was the one that did most of the damage to herself and Ivan. Not to mention she needed them to help him and who knows how long it will take him to recover. She thought about him for a moment, how would he see her now? His words rang through her mind again as she put her hand to rest on a tree trunk. “A monster hey?” She looked up to the tree tops, searching for the sky but found the leaves heavily clustered or maybe it was that she was too far gone and the light would not reach her where she was now. “Fuck metaphors!” She said as she pushed herself off the tree. “And fuck Ivan.” Had he not come and interfered she would have been fine, the girls were free that guy would have died and she would have walked away; a little angry but not in a fit of rage.
Dragging her feet and keeping hold of anything she could for support till she finally herd the sounds of water. It was as if it gave her a second wind for she pushed harder and stumbled, feel and then eventually crawled to the river bank. At first she drank, she cupped her hands and drank till she felt less dizzy – by now the blood loss had caused her to become faint and she felt her eyes becoming droopy. Without any further hesitation she fumbled through her bag for a cloth and dipping it in water. She tried to clean her wounds on her stomach but her shoulder armour and jacket were getting in the way. Forcing herself to move with the little energy she had she fingered at the buckles before finally letting the jacket and armour fall to the ground. Now sitting on her knees she tried to clean herself again.
With each dab she felt herself becoming faint, there was now a pool of blood around her and the water had started to taint with red. She knew she had more blood flowing in her than the average person but this, this was becoming too much and she wasn’t able to get to each cut quick enough. With heavy eyes now her body started to give in and her mind was soon to follow. Swaying now her hand dropped to her side and she fell to the ground, laying there in a pool of her own blood.

| Sitting in a tree, Tristan watched the grassy ground below. He held a simple wooden long bow, an arrow nocked and ready. He had little skill, if any, with a bow but it was the preferred hunting tool. His breathing was steady, himself calm and collected. It shouldn't be much longer. He just needed to wait.
Winter was done with, its last fingers holding some grasp on the edge of the world. He could still feel its bite on every breeze but it was Spring now. Winter was an ever fighting enemy, one that never gave up, even to the bitter end. Tristan ignored it though, paying no mind to the slight chill in the air. No, his mind and concentration was all focused on the what should be appearing soon.
Out of the bushes, a few dozen meters from his location, trotted a fully grown buck. Slow and steady, Tristan raised his bow and pulled the arrow to his cheek. Finally, after hours of waiting his prey had come. Alas, it was all for naught, as a doe and her youngling stepped from the shrubbery too. Sighing deeply, Tristan lowered the pressure on the bow and quietly climbed down the tree.
"Better luck next time, I suppose." He muttered to himself. He couldn't kill the deer, to rob its life from its family.
Something caught his eye as he made his way through the forest. A small stream laid ahead and his highly perceptive sight caught hold of the red traces in the water. Blood. Gazing upstream, Tristan's eyes narrowed and he began a light jog towards the source. Lo and behold, the Guardian Shield found a heavily injured, and unconscious, female by the stream. Grimacing to himself, he leaped the water and ran to her side, paying no mind to the blood he tread and knelt in. This did not look good.
"Excuse, miss, can you hear me?" Though a normal person would be panicking, Tristan was calm, as was his light baritone voice.
Slowly and surely, Tristan lightly moved his hands across her wounded body, gently touching the woman's injuries. He needed to know the extent of the damage before he could do anything. Just by looking, he knew the severity, she would die without medical assistance. Was this a test? Whatever it was, he needed to act fast. Luckily he carried a few medicinal herbs on him at all times. A fresh water source right there would also prove helpful. With a sigh, Tristan removed his cloak and gear and went about making a small fire next to him. It was time to work.

I AM A MONSTER - BUT I HAVE A SOUL Zero was dreaming, she had long since fell into a deep state of unconsciousness and nothing around her could be heard. Though she would say she was dreaming she actually felt like she was floating in a dark space, not quite dreaming because it felt real where she was. As she floated there she watched as the darkness became colour and then as the colours became images until she was watching herself beating on the doctor, taking joy in showing him no mercy for what he did to the girls. Did she regret what she did as she watched it? No. She didn’t. When she came across the house she had heard the girls screaming. As soon as she heard their shrieks she felt obligated to check it out. What she found horrified her. That doctor had one strapped to a table the other in chains. Zero fear for them both and that was what made the rage start; it boiled as she began her work.
She was ruthless; she could see why Ivan called her a monster as she watched herself hack away at the man. But in that moment she had to be, everything that man stood for, what he did, it needed to be punished. He even had technology in his house, something punishable by death – she had to burn it down. All of it! It was then that Zero felt something, heat. At first she thought it was her dream, just imagining what the fire would feel like but then after a little longer she realised that wasn’t it. As her sensors started to come too she opened her eye slowly, her vision was blurry but as she rolled her head to the side she could make out a fire next to her. “Fire?...” Her words were soft, not threatening but rather curious. “I didn’t die?” She turned to face the sky, she could see stars now and it seemed to settle her that she truly hadn’t died – she knew now she didn’t want too.
The was a snap and a shift in the wind, Zero flinched and on instinct her hand came up to grab the wrist of someone. “Who are you?!” She titled her head, only having just noticed a hand near her, about to do what she didn’t care to ask – she’d let no one touch her without her consent. “What are you doing? Where am I?” To say she was a little confused wasn’t quite right, she was very confused, was she not still near the river? Looking to her left she saw the dark patch, the flames of the fire reflecting off it. Yes she was still here but who was this. “Who are you?” She questioned him, her grip still on his wrist.

Yeah, let him go, so he can get back to groping her. ❀ | So intent on his task, Tristan wasn't away that his charge had awoken. He should have recognized the subtle change in her breathing when she regained consciousness but he wasn't paying attention. That was something he would remedy in the future. It started out with a little words, ones he didn't quite catch, followed by the iron vise grip on his wrist. That brought him back to reality, just in time to hear the questions.
Instead of answering, the dark-haired young man turned to gaze at her face, partially illuminated by the fire next to them. He hadn't noticed it before but so full of life now, she was quite beautiful. An observation, nothing more. Back to the task at hand, or rather wrist, he didn't see another way out of it, besides restraining her but with her injuries he might just kill her.
"Me? I am the one whom has saved your life, or will, if you stay still. I have a lot of work ahead of me." While she still held him, he reached with his other hand to grasp a pouch and handed it to her. "Here, drink this. It should soothe your nerves, quell any minor aches and stave off infections. But, it's going to taste rather bitter."

I AM A MONSTER - BUT I HAVE A SOUL Her sight was coming to her now and she could clearly make out a man with dark long hair and a fair strong physique. She watched him, not realising that her grip on his wrist might be rather tight. When he spoke it didn’t seem threatening and she actually felt herself relax. If he had wanted her dead then he could have left her or killed her – it was then she let him go, her hand coming to her tummy where she felt some prickling. She wasn’t bleeding anymore but the wounds weren’t sealed that much she could tell from feeling the patches of bandage. She actually made a face when she realised she would have to sit through the pain of stitches.
When he reached over her she tried to not show her discomfort with his proximity to her, rather she accepted the bottle and brought it to her lips. The moment the liquid touched her lips and coated her throat she made a face. “You weren’t wrong. What is this stuff?” She held it out in front of her face, well tried to as she was laying down and couldn’t quiet look at the bottle without it spilling on her. Though as she tried to work it out she did feel herself relax and clam quite a bit. “I guess this works.” She said as she closed her eye, her free hand coming up to her face and resting over her flower. She knew she was in for a long night and a world of pain but it beats dying and dying alone at that. “Tell me…If you found a man using technology and torturing and raping women would you kill him?” She wasn’t quite sure why she asked, maybe she felt like she needed someone else’s opinion, someone who could tell her she wasn’t a beast. Whatever it was she went back to looking at the stars, letting him clean her wounds one by one. Every now and then she would flitch but she tried to keep as still as possible, she knew that movement would cause her to bleed.

She's not a beast. ❀ | It seemed that her earlier suspicions wore off. It was a small surprise the girl had taken the pouch from him and drank it without question. Well, the question came after. For all she knew, it could have been poison yet she trusted him, a stranger, enough to take it. Not that it was poison but still, he found that strange. Though her question was valid and that he would answer while he went about his tasks.
"It's water, mixed with some medicinal herbs. Erm, Barkbury, Faum and.. a mixture of Dire weed and Granyl." He nodded absently with each name of the plant. "Barkbury helps with soothing nerves, while Faum dulls pain. Both Dire weed and Granyl are used to fight infections but with your numerous injuries, I figured both would be best. Dire weed is why it tastes vile, especially when mixed in with Faum. The two don't match."
As he went on about the herbs, his hands were cleaning the rest of her wounds. He was momentarily caught off guard by her odd question. Technology, torture, rape and killing a man? He himself was puzzled but it didn't stop his working. He didn't answer her either, instead thinking on it while he went about healing her. Maybe she would take his silence at that and stay silent. He didn't mean to be rude but that kind of question required something he was using to heal her. Focus.
Reaching into a bowl, he dipped out green paste and went about applying it to her lesser injuries. It was to fight the infections that may have entered into her body from the wounds themselves. It would help protect her from further attacks while he finished with the other wounds. Though it seemed like the perfect time to take a break. He wasn't done with her but he needed a moment for himself. First he took a drink of water before addressing her.
"No, I would arrest him for his crimes. If he resisted, yes, I would kill him. He would have been sentenced to death regardless. Technology is a sin but not only for that would he have been killed." Was it just him or was she looking for some kind of solace?

I AM A MONSTER - BUT I HAVE A SOUL She noted that he ignored her, his hands working at her cuts rather than stopping to give focus to his question. Maybe it was too hard a question for someone to answer, or maybe the task itself was too hard to carry out. Zero felt no qualms with carrying out such a task, she would do the things that others could not if she had too. Such is her life in the end, only a tool for the God Orik to play with. When he brought her back always plagued her, there were many people in this land that could protect it. The Guardian Shields for one, it was their job and not hers yet that stupid animal made it her duty also. Maybe he wanted her to join the Guardian Shield; he’d be waiting a long time.
She listened as he explained the concoction of drink she just had, it made sense to give her something like that but it tasted foul and she still had an after taste in her mouth. “I can tell they don’t mix.” She mutter looking away from him and too the fire, she didn’t feel like drinking anymore of it just yet. It was then she noticed the bowls and carved tools next to her, most smelt funny and for a moment she panicked but then realise that had he wanted to she would already be dead. She trusted that much was true, besides the people of this land weren’t all barbarians so it wasn’t odd for a stranger to help another.
Eventually he did answer her and something about his answer made her overtly aware that this man wasn’t just an ordinary traveller. “You’re a Guardian aren’t you?” She managed to get out with a slight grin. “Lucky me I guess.” She chuckled and then coughed as a bolt of pain shot through her body. “Sorry” she managed as she relaxed again, allowing him the space to work on her form once more. “Do you have a name?” She looked at him now, taking in his features and committing it to memory, she would need to for she now was indebted to him.

Does she perchance have a wound on her breasts? ❀ | The way he answered her question must have given her a clue that he was in fact a Guardian Shield. Who else in Domhan Tir had the authority to arrest someone? Though during as of yet short time serving the Shields, he's only arrested a bare handful of criminals while the rest of his comrades bagged plenty. Alas, he was getting off topic in his own mind and half-smiled at the girl.
"Yes, I am a Guardian Shield. I suppose you would be lucky that someone of my experience found you. With your injuries, it was just as likely a pack of wolves would have gotten to you." Shaking his head, Tristan got up and knelt by the stream so he could wash his hands. The tricky part was to come.
"No, it's okay, no harm done." He said when he knelt at her side once more. "And I am called Tristan. What is your name, miss?"
With that said, Tristan threaded string through a curved suturing needle, held that needle over the open flame then peeled back one of the bandages on her stomach. He grimaced at the sickly sound it made, then gestured at the pouch she had for her to drink more of it. The worst pain was about to happen. With the heated needle sterilized, and focused skill, he started to stitch the wound closed.

I AM A MONSTER - BUT I HAVE A SOUL
Listening to him speak of a pack a wolves finding her first made her cringe, the thought of being eaten alive wasn’t a great one. “Yes I can’t say there would be much left of me. Thank you Tristan, my name is Zero.” She wondered if Guardian Shields bothered themselves with bounties that the bandits put out, surely not she hoped as she had quite a sum on her head.
She then watched his hands as picked up a needle and thread – his fingers working the thread into the eye of the needle and she cringed again knowing what was to come after that needle left the flame. She didn’t even hesitate to lift the bottle to her lips, taking three large gulps and making a face as the bitter liquid dowsed her throat and dulled her senses. “This stuff…really hits you.” She was tense but the drink had forced her muscles to relax on their own. Knowing that it was needed for what was to come but she still wasn’t keen on it. “Ok I’m ready” She said this and closed her eyes, the sound of him pulling back the bandage was disgusting and she cursed herself for letting the rage get the best of her.

No seriously, she got any booboos on her boobies? ❀ | It was brave of her not to try and stop him. Most cracked under the pressure and pleaded for another way. No matter how much one's senses were dulled or pain masked, sewing up a wound would hurt something fierce. Especially a deep one that was all sensitive tissue. With a deep breath, Tristan began slipping the hot needle through her skin.
In one side, through another, loop around and back through. With each firm pull, the opened wound would start to close. Tristan pressed down on her chest with his free hand, to keep her from squirming too much, or as insurance in case she did. It didn't last long, perhaps a couple of minutes but he was soon biting the thread in half and tying it off.
Setting the needle aside, Tristan placed a few herbs in a bowl and mashed them up. He added water soon after and stirred it, followed by more mashing until it became almost paste-like. He heated the bowl over the fire then dipped the soft mass onto a bandage that he applied to the newly stitched wound. A poultice, to treat further infections and inflammation.
"There, that should do it for that. Are you okay, Zero?" He glanced to her then turned back to the needle and began to clean it for its next job. "It's funny, you know? I've heard of a girl named Zero, a monstrous murderer that stands fifteen feet tall, commands hellish creatures from another dimension and turns people to stone with a single look. It's quite crazy. You don't look like a monster to me. Here, drink this." He handed her another pouch, though this time it held a kind of herbal alcohol. It kicks hard, and burns too but would help better to take the edge off.
"Take this time to rest, I'll be right back.." Gathering some of his other gear, Tristan stood up and walked off into the forest, shrouded in the night.
