"REN" MALE 23 AQUAVIA JACK-OF-ALL-TRADES STRAIGHT | a p p e a r a n c e _______________________________ Of Renatus' three primary descriptors, none sound terribly flattering. Young, unkempt and somewhat effeminate in appearance, it's easy to disregard any threats he may make as some sort of joke. Standing at a meager 5 feet and 6 inches he is shorter than your average male, and his accompanying physique, while adequate, is slender and wide-hipped enough that he has been mistaken for a woman from behind on more than one occasion. Once someone has had time to get over his somewhat dainty figure, their attention will most likely draw to his face. A long, heart-shaped face gives way to narrow blue eyes encircled by dark rings which stand out on his pale skin and give the impression of a man who does not get as much sleep as he should. His thin lips rarely change from a scowl that has already wrought the beginning of frown-lines, and a somewhat long and pointed nose prominently brings the face together. Renatus is generally poor at upkeep, and as such tends to wait too long in between cuts for his white hair, resulting in an unbrushed mess better off shaved than addressed. Between his hair and his general unwashed status (particularly the smells that come from his lack of proper washing) it comes to some surprise that he maintains what little of a wardrobe he owns with some care. Considering he travels often, Renatus does not carry much in the way of clothes on him and will usually only have the outfit he is wearing in his possession. His wear consists of an intricate vest and undershirt of black and silver with a fur neckline (a gift used as payment for one of his previous jobs), a pair of white slacks with many stains from being worn, black leather gloves and a pair of knee-high black boots. Despite the clothes being a somewhat odd choice for warmer weather, he still will refuse to take them off unless he is getting ready to sleep, even when running the risk for heat stroke. If one did manage to get Renatus to take off his clothes (while tolerating the smell) they would notice his scars. As with most people there are a few scars on his body from careless mistakes, but his left arm is far more noticeable than a scar from falling or the slip of a knife. All the way up to the shoulder the arm is terribly scarred from massive burns he had suffered in his past. Usually he keeps it bandaged underneath his shirt to keep the injury from being seen, and due to the massive tissue damage that arm has lost a significant amount of functionality. However, he will do everything in his power to give the illusion of two perfectly functional limbs, even if it results in pain or injury on his part he will avoid revealing that weakness. While a bit odd looking, Renatus considers himself to be somewhat handsome, and will fully expect anybody he meets to feel the same way. p e r s o n a l i t y _______________________________ Renatus has always felt out of place due his belief that he lacks unique skills, and as such has built himself a mental wall to distance himself emotionally from others. While unafraid of social contact, and always more than happy to share a word or two with a stranger, he will quickly change the subject if his personal life comes up and avoids emotional subjects of any sort entirely. His hatred for talking about feelings has led to him simply walking away from a conversation without warning many a time. As a symptom of this, anyone who attempts to get close to him will be quickly pushed away with a dismissive word, a trait that has made many believe he is "heartless." Of course, even though he neglects to share his emotions does not mean they are absent. It just means they are none of anybody else's business. While his charm and openness may be lacking, Renatus still has an undeniably sharp tongue which he is fond of using at every opportunity. To compensate for his discomfort with emotional predicaments he will often attempt to diffuse the train of thought with his sarcasm and lewd humor to lighten the mood to a more casual point. His sense of humor is undeniably cruel, and often what he will find hilarious will offend and upset those within earshot. This has placed him in many undesirable situations in the past and brought him far more enemies than it has friends. Nonetheless he finds himself hilarious and persists in the most inappropriate of situations simply for the sake of making himself laugh at the expense of those around him. Though Renatus has a shred of wit, he was never a scholar and had little desire to learn from situations. He is a fairly uneducated man, but has spent much time traveling due to his life choices. His travels have given him the opportunity to experience more than one his age typically would have. With the experience under his belt he has developed some business savvy and street smarts to back him up in sticky situations - a much-needed skill considering his lack of combat expertise tends to lead to a need for quick-thinking. His adaptive nature has led to a belief that he can talk his way out of any situation, and no matter how many times his words fail him this belief remains unwavering. Despite his large ego and his family's determined upbringing, Renatus is a very unmotivated individual, perhaps due to his belief that there is nothing unique about his talents. He refuses to put forth the effort to go above and beyond in almost any situation, preferring to do the bare minimum to the point where he will frequently refuse paying jobs simply because he does not need money in the immediate. His idea of a good day is one where he never has to leave a bed, and his nightmare is a steady job that requires his obligation and effort. In front of others he will attempt to cover up his slacker-like behavior with lies and more of his quick-witted humor, but his unkempt appearance and avoidant attitude make it obvious before you even see his laziness in action. Renatus may give off the air of someone apathetic to suffering, as well as being difficult to motivate and having a mean sense of humor, but when it comes to the strong hurting the weak he refuses to abide. In what he feels is his greatest weakness, Renatus feels a powerful obligation to help the needy at his own risk and cost. He is particularly motivated when the sufferer of misfortune is a young woman - whether that is because they remind him of his sister or if it is a matter of attraction is a secret he will keep to his grave. GOALS & SECRETS:
a b i l i t i e s / s k i l l s _______________________________ Renatus has no known abilities, and his only worthwhile skills are his silver tongue and his adaptability to a wide variety of tasks as is required by his occupation. While he has learned bits and pieces of information - including machine repairs, combat and the hunting and trapping of animals - there is no particular one thing that he could be considered great at. This leaves him at a disadvantage during aggressive situations, but his life has overall adapted to his lack of specification in any one field. He may not be great at anything, but he's sort-of-good with everything. strengths:

h i s t o r y _______________________________ Born to Faolan and Deanna Crevan, Renatus was the middle child of 3. His family had no important Aquavian political figures or brilliant engineers in their midst, and had no legendary lineage to tell tales of. On both sides of his family were ordinary, hard working men and women of Aquavia, just trying to make their way through a world full of science, magic, gods and legends. The values of hard work, diligent studying and respect to the Gods were the code and creed of the Crevan family, and from a young age their importance was emphasized to Renatus, his older brother, Aleron, and his little sister, Cecilia. While his siblings seemed to take to the mentality, even as a child Renatus was lazy, always trying to find an excuse to avoid the effort his family desired for him to put in at their small store in Baem.. While his relationship with his parents was somewhat foul from birth, he felt something of a connection with his siblings. He and Aleron were as thick as thieves, causing mischief when they weren't in school or assisting their parents with work around the home, and both watched over their delicate little sister like faithful watchdogs. Over time Renatus would learn how to put in the least effort possible to succeed in any task. His grades and fitness scores were on the lower end of average, and while jobs his parents asked him to do got done nothing was attempted to go above and beyond. Truly, Renatus appeared to be one of the most average people in Aquavia, even amongst his own terribly ordinary family. As he watched his brother graduate and become a member of the Guardians of Aquavia, Renatus realized that his parents were expected him to take the mantle of managing the store in the future when they became too old to continue. At age 17 and only a year from graduating from schooling himself, Renatus found the idea of growing up and facing new responsibilities absolutely terrifying. Still, perhaps he would have been content to sit at home with his family forever, living off of the profits of the store. Perhaps one day he would even be content with inheriting it to keep the tradition alive, if he had Cecelia's help. He may have grown one day to be truly happy with the work and life his family had determined for him. Instead, there was a fire. One day fresh after Renatus' graduation, at 18 years old, he and his father had gone on a day trip to run a few business errands for the store together, leaving his mother and little sister to maintain the business in their stead. What happened while they were gone is still a mystery to Renatus, but despite irony of a building by the water catching flame, as he and his father returned the storefront was ablaze and there was little that two men could accomplish on their own to put it out. While his father watched on in horror Renatus ran inside the burning building hoping to rescue his mother and sister from the raging inferno. With some effort he managed to pull his mother out and into the fresh air, but when he found his sister she was pinned underneath a support beam in the quickly collapsing store. He pulled and pulled, but the support beam wouldn't budge no matter how desperate he became. As he continued to try and move the massive wooden beam, the flames rose up along it and burned his left arm intensely. With the building falling around them, the fire and smoke rising all around and his left arm now severely wounded, Renatus chose to save himself and leave his sister there to die. Cecelia begged for him to stay, to save her, but Renatus shut out her cries and ignored her as he limped his way out of the house. As the fire was put out, he would claim he hadn't seen his sister anywhere. He pretended, ridden with guilt, that seeing her charred corpse was a shock. Renatus would never tell his parents that he abandoned his sister to save his own life in that fire, or how he got the burns on his left arm which would stay with him him for life, but he would hear her screams and feel the heat of the flames in his dreams from that night onward. In his own mind, he had killed his sister by leaving her there. Nobody suspected what he had done, nobody accused him of his negligence leading to her death. Nobody but himself. It was only a month later that Renatus, who felt out of place and haunted by Cecelia's presence in that city, decided it was time to leave. He wasn't sure of exactly where he would go, or what he would do, but he could no longer stay with his parents. He could no longer stay in Baem, and perhaps even Aquavia. He wrote a note for his family and left that night with nothing more than pocket change and the clothes on his back, hoping to find fairer pastures elsewhere. His first few months were hard, and he stooped to petty theft and begging many times to eat on his journey towards Hryst. Following the river path he entered the foreign land, and as he traversed the border it was almost like shedding his skin. He left his problems behind in Aquavia, and to eat he began performing small tasks in exchange for money and food. Renatus quickly found that one who does odd-jobs needed to stay on the road, always looking for new employers and ways to make a dollar, so he became comfortable with moving around frequently. He would build connections anywhere his feet took him, and over the next few years he would work for anyone who would help cover his food budget. While known for his mediocre work, his record of completed jobs is still impressive enough to have earned him a reputation with the sort of person looking for a random task to be completed. He never goes hungry, but it's hardly a lucrative business. As of currently, Renatus is still working as a jack-of-all trades and avoiding Aquavia unless on business. He has spent time in both Hryst and Domhan Tyr, wandering the world in search of money and his own personal satisfaction. As a wandering man, the rumors that the walls of Yursa were to come down have caught his attention as of late. A new country meant a chance for new jobs and new money. Who knows? Maybe it would be worth a shot. known family: Faolan Crevan - 47 - Local Store Owner Deanna Crevan - 44 - Deceased (illness) Aleron Crevan - 24 - Guardians of Aquavia Cecelia Crevan - 16 - Deceased (fire) Referred to this site by Dragon Bait |
