Thanny MALE TWENTY-THREE DOHMAN TIR TRADER'S ASSISTANT DEMISEXUAL | a p p e a r a n c e _______________________________ Fragile. That is the first word that usually pops into one's head when meeting Thaniel, regardless of whether they mean to think it or not; simply put, the young man looks like the tribulations of life on the road would crush him underfoot within a day or two. The fact that he has been traveling with his foster father in some way, be it by sail, by rail, or by snail (as he jokingly refers to the slower cart and wagon land routes) for nearly half his lifetime, however, clearly shows otherwise. In his shyness, he only chooses to keep the other hints that he is anything more than a sickly little rich boy buried under thick layers of dark fabric and his sweet-if-nervous smiles. Not helping his frail image at all is his face, small and with a delicately pointed chin, a slightly upturned nose, and intensely violet eyes. His lips are thin and prone to quirking up at the corners, as the act of putting on a friendly expression helps alleviate some of the anxiety that plagues the boy when interacting with others to this very day. It's a habit that certainly comes in handy, as the fluffy lavender locks that frame his face nicely in the front and tickles the skin of his neck in the back draws its fair share of attention with its unusual color, and with the attention comes questions. Questions that his foster father quickly dismisses when they're together, knowing the painful memories they dredge up for Thaniel about his life before leaving Blaikfurd. Despite this, he refuses to treat it with dyes or cover it up when his traveling companions suggest it, sheepishly curling a finger int he soft strands as he explains that the color of his hair and eyes remind him not to misuse the gift Orik granted him. Though it is difficult to spot underneath the long, fur-trimmed black coat he nearly always wears, there is actually some muscle on the assistant's light frame: not much, granted, and what he has is lean and goes unnoticed until heat or the need for a wash finally push him into removing the garment, leaving his torso bare but for his matching black gloves and the sleeveless - and equally black - shirt beneath. Standing at a tiny five-foot-four will not get you excused from helping load and unload cargo and carrying materials during delivery, it seems, and while he will never achieve the heroic build of a knight, his chores do manage to keep him well-exercised. His favored traveling pants and well-broken in boots are black as well, as the young man reasons that stains happen on the road whether you're careful or not, which means dark clothing lasts longer. While his hair and eyes are the most obvious side-effect of his gift, there are two others that are typically hidden by his coat and gloves: two long, thin lines curling around each forearm and cutting off roughly an inch beneath his elbows, an unnatural white on his left hand and pitch black on his right. They start out thicker on the back of his hand, raised against the skin and tapering to point by the time they reach the top of their final curl, and if not for their texture - and what each hand can do - he would be able to pass them off as odd tattoos...though, given his personality, that would likely be a hard story for anyone who's spent more than a few minutes with him to believe. Even in their usual state they tend to embarrass him, despite the fact that his foster father is a wind mage and does not think of his gift as a shame of any sort. The staring just makes him uncomfortable, you see, and that's without taking his fear that others will find one particular side of his gift repulsive into account. p e r s o n a l i t y _______________________________ This is the most important section of this entire application. GOALS & SECRETS:
a b i l i t i e s & s k i l l s _______________________________ Immunity: The most basic aspect of Thaniel's gift is that he has a natural immunity to poisons, animal venom, and infections. Since Orik saved his life as a child, he has never once fallen ill; at least, not from an outside source, as overtaxing his more active abilities can lead to dehydration, fever, and heavy fatigue, leaving him shaking and confined to an inn or the back of a wagon until he gets his strength back. Thankfully, he tends to recover enough to walk within a day or two - but then again, he's never yet stretched his abilities to their full potential, so it's still up in the air as to whether experimenting more with his gift's other aspects will increase his stamina or have even harsher repercussions. Left Hand, Restoration: Just as Orik once saved him, Thaniel now has the power to save others concentrated in his left hand...at least, within certain limitations. By focusing and turning his hand palm-up can generate a sphere of liquid, glowing with the same bright white as the spiral on his arm as it hovers a hair's breadth above his skin. From there, applying this antidote directly to a bite or wound quickly attacking and neutralizing any toxins in the receiver's system. It can also be given to them as a drink to produce the same effect, which is more useful for when someone has either accidentally or been tricked into consuming something poisonous. Additionally, by placing the liquid into a vial, Thaniel is able to save some of it for emergencies where overtaxing his abilities could be dangerous for both he and the one he's treating, and it can be either drank straight or added to a tea to help combat more mundane illnesses, return some strength and stamina to the drinker, and decrease the amount of time it takes the body to heal from injuries. Right Hand, Virulence : This is the side of his gift than Thaniel hates, though it has come in handy on a handful of occasions when cornered by bands of robbers on the road, now that the unfavorable weather has confined his band to land-based travel. When using this side of his ability, the skin on his right hand thickens and turns a dark, ominous grey while the mark on his hand pulses with purple light, his nails changing into elongated claws coated in venom. What exactly the effects are seem to reflect Thaniel's emotional state when he's fighting, with paralyzing agents being the most frequent; a subconscious response to his desire to survive mixed with his fear of actually killing someone with this disgusting ability. Get him angry enough, though - a difficult feat, but not impossible if you place someone he loves or cares about in danger, or he's in serious fear for his life - and you might end up on the receiving end of something truly nasty, the kind of poison that tears through your insides like fire, robs you of your ability to breathe properly, and empties your stomach of its contents. However, he's usually far too docile to generate anything more painful to one's system than a slight burn, and most of his toxins will wear off within a few minutes to a few hours on their own. It is possible that with more practice he might be able to someday consciously switch between effects, but because he detests using it so much, that day is far off indeed. strengths:
