Geinokai had a big name. And with a big name came much expectation. It was one of the first lessons the steward had taught her. So when she was in her favorite restaurant, she was President Geinokai. A nice suit and hair gelled. She sat quietly, having already ordered and a glass of wine sat on the table next to a sparkling water. However, rather than food, a small, thin pen set on a stand and two lights shown from it. One was a keyboard on the table, literally projected there by the pen. The other was a hologram spread out in front of her for viewing. It was a memo from the company she'd ordered from. The privacy of her booth allowed her to view her personal correspondences without worry of someone taking video or pictures of her personal information. However, from her place in the balcony, she only had to move the large velvet curtain slightly to be able to see the entire restaurant.
It was a problem.
She ran her hand through her hair and let out a soft sigh through her nose. Secrets were always so difficult to keep hidden... especially if you were trying to maintain your innocence as well as a new company image...
This was less than optimal. Nikyoku had lost her confidant and her one assistant in the death of the Geinokai steward. Of course there was much flattery and over-trying right now in the upper offices of the company; they all expected Nikyoku to pick a new assistant from the ranks closest to hers. But there was a problem with that. All of those positions were just as important as Nikyoku's own. Training someone for them, and the obvious mistakes and learning, was time and effort she couldn't afford at this point in time. They'd only just started the changing over into divisions and the switching over of contracts. Even the Board of Beneficiaries agreed with her on that statement, which she knew thanks to a discreet set of memos back and forth about the subject.
And then there were her personal reasons.
If she was to have an assistant who knew her schedule and her every waking moment, she'd need someone she could trust with her secret about Suta. It was hardly acceptable to have an assistant who couldn't keep up with her. Communication and discretion were key in this business in equal measures. Her pen blinked and beeped.
Another memo had just come in. She smiled. This one was from her costuming department. Suta's new costume was ready to be tried on and it would be sent to Geinokai's headquarters for inspection and adjustment. Her secret woman's heart fluttered. She loved the costumes Suta wore. They were the epitome of beauty, in most cases. Even in the more casual attire for the heavy physical activity of some of the routines, there was something distinctly ... pretty... about it.
"Sleep." She said aloud. The pen flashed a blue sleepy star character with a moon bed and pillow on the "screen" and then the lights turned off.
She then clapped her hands and the curtains around her little booth opened wider to reveal the chandeliers and the LED candles on the tables past the banister of her balcony. The tablecloths were lit from underneath and they had little scenes playing across them. Fish swimming or butterflies or shooting stars. It was all to set the proper mood. Many high class business people came here to enjoy a meal and a relaxing hour or two away from the everything else that drove them here.
The soft music was a mix of classical and techno in typical Aquavian taste. The highest of intelligence mixed with the best of technology. She picked up her wine and gently sipped it and fought a cringe. Damn it all she would never get used to this... A beautiful atmosphere, a luring hospitality... and she was stuck drinking the dry wine that went with her main course rather than a cocktail with pineapple in it because of her image. She set the glass down and gulped some of the sparkling water.
Glancing down at her watch she realized that her appointment was soon. She'd shown up early to adjust herself, and put in an order for appetizers so that as soon as her guest sat down there would be food and wine for them. All of it had been paid for so the guest would never be bothered with any sort of bill. It was the Geinokai way. Rather, it was the new Geinokai way. Her father had had dealings in many infamous ways, even having others pay his way to make up for some ridiculous slight.
There were still times her father caused people not to respect Nikyoku, which infuriated her because she hardly knew the man at all, but of course she couldn't tell anyone that. She was the heir and was to uphold the legacy he left behind. That statement had considerably less power when you considered that Nikyoku knew next to nothing about his legacy before becoming the President.
She glanced at her watch again. The blond haired "boy" was still waiting for his contact to discuss the business at hand. Was he being stood up?
