the things that you might like don't grow inside of me There were many, many things that Miyoko ascribed to "believe" in, and for the most part she was of the opinion that people were entitled to their own codes and whatnot. That being said, however, there was one certain belief that the young woman upheld, and that was that certain things were bullshit and there was no arguing that. Normally, other countries and their cultures were welcome breaks to Aquavia's rat race lifestyle, but it was also a reminder that no one country was perfect - a rude awakening, and Miyoko wasn't quite sure what she had been expecting when she had left her home country yet again for a trip to another one. She had, honestly, thought that she would be traveling to Hryst to help with her company's idea to alleviate some of the problems plaguing the place's shipping fleets - a favor to an old friend of the boss, and a plan that frankly required her for it to work. Not that she minded the ego stroking, but she had also been under the apparent delusion that it would essentially amount to a paid vacation while things were set up for Miyoko to work her magic - something that would basically amount to using a giant ass arc welder to melt the ice blocking some of the ships in, and things that big took time to set up. Apparently enough time to send her out to the ass end of nowhere to help deal with another problem, and one where she knew next to nothing beyond what her part in things was. Domhan Tir was, as politely as Miyoko could put it, a clusterfuck of backwards ideas. Now, she wasn't bashing on the people or their values, not by a long shot - there was a lot to be said for the pacifistic, "live and let live" honor code they had going, and Miyoko greatly respected that. Hell, even their views on not using crutches for things that they could accomplish themselves... but like every country, Tir had their own problems as well. Aquavia had their issue with class gaps in society, Hryst had their own problems when it came to over reliance on import/export businesses and difficulty getting their hands on technology... and then you had Domhan Tir, a country that was run by something approaching a heavily patriarchal society to the point where it was a noted exception for anyone that didn't stand up in the bathroom to gain a position of influence. Hell, even looking at how family names and bloodlines were handled, or the military, but a lot of that was just scratching the surface. It was honestly probably just a personal quirk of her own, something that came with growing up in the heavily technological and scientific Aquavia, but she could not for the life of her understand where the line between religion and fanaticism began or ended. As Miyoko had noted before, she actually had a deep respect for the nation's restraint when it came to technology.... but then there was a point where it seemed to border almost on stupidity. Surely medical advances weren't something their god would look down on? A greater understanding of the world around them to help better preserve it? Even basic electricity? Hell, Aquavia had their own clean, renewable power sources, proof that it could be done! Even freaking solar or wind power?! Or basic refrigeration so that they didn't end up wasting food during harsh winters and took less from the land around them, supposedly the whole point to their culture's tenets? Didn't burning wood to keep warm during the winter actually produce more waste than the other methods might have for electric heating? But still, none of that was here nor there. Frankly, those were all reasons for Miyoko's burning desire to simply get the hell out of the country and meet up with everyone else back in Hryst before heading home again. It should've been a simple enough task - find the bandits in the forest near the capitol, no muss, no fuss. Even the country's own laws would be on her side - she was free to protect herself from attack, and it wasn't like she was carrying a weapon. Alone, virtually defenseless at first glance, and with any luck even the country's own sexist policies would play to her advantage - in a country where the military was predominantly if not exclusively male, what jackass who spent their life avoiding them would expect an unarmed woman to hit back? As long as they were the ones who attacked her first - and they had no reason not to if they were the bandits she was looking for - all would be well. Take 'em out with nonlethal force, thank you very much O God of Aquavia for the Downed Power Line Attack, drag 'em back to the nearest official she could find and she'd be out of the country and on her merry way. Assuming nothing went wrong, knowing her luck, but if that happened she'd pay to see someone from a country with no motor vehicles manage to keep up with her in a foot race. And so, with that thought in mind the woman continued to make her way down the frozen path through the forest, bundled up to keep warm and alert for any other signs of life - if admittedly not in the best of moods. @tag |
