Click. Click. Click. The heels of her boots hit the floor making the soft noise as she walked through the building heading toward her new captain's office. She kept her head held high as she wondered what this captain was like. She had heard that she wasn't the easiest person to work with but Brenna was sure she could handle it. There were troubling thoughts in her head as she walked on. What if she didn't fit in with this group? What if she lost control? What if...what if...what if. She shook her head and kept walking. She saw some of the others that were around look at her and remembered what she was wearing. It was freezing outside and she was wearing the outfit where a lot of her flesh was exposed to all of it. Brenna didn't care what they thought as she kept walking. This was work and everything about her was professional. Her face was in the same piss off expression she wore when people were around her. Her sword hung at her hip. She kept her head high and her gift low. The last thing she needed was it exposing itself here while she was trying to transfer.
Always the doubts of her past came back to haunt her when anything new had to happen. She could hear his voice telling her how she was going to mess up. It was hard enough keeping her power in check but she needed this change. She needed a different captain. Someone, that she hoped, wouldn't question the way she was dressed and why she didn't talk about herself when so many others would.
Soon Brenna found herself at the office of Captain Story E. Luminus. She stood there for a minute looking at the door before looking down at her file and the transfer form. Her crimson eyes flicked quickly back to the door. Part of her wanted to run to never come back and just stay in her current squad. "Don't be a child." She slowly raised her gloved hand and knocked on the door. She waited for there to be an answer on the other side of the door. As she waited, she thought of what could happen while she was in there. Or who this Captain Luminus was? She only knew what she had heard which was good but she was a hard ass. Brenna didn't think she would mind.

CPT. STORY EVE LUMINUS is the day over yet?..
If most went by the book, obsession is: 'the domination of one's thoughts or feelings by a persisting idea, image, or desire.' It had only gotten worse in her time she spent alone.. Maps were spread along her desk - compasses circling areas with different colors and strings or lines patched across the seas from the shores of nearby, known land formations. Her palms were placed on the wooden surface and she bent over it with a gray and empty expression - hollow eyes - almost mesmerized by the patterns she'd drawn.
Months.. it had been months.. and still she'd draw out possibilities of what could have happened every single time she had a few minutes alone and after all her work was done. Books were stacked on one side of the desk as well, studies of weather, species, and histories of trade routes. Other than that the wide surface was clean besides a small statuette of her goddess with open arms at her sides along with the Hrystic crest at the base of the marble figure. Along it, it read: "Ever Protecting".
A knock broke her concentration (though she'd been staring blankly for nearly half an hour) and stood straight to stretch her back. A tired sigh came from her nose and she lifted her hand to run down her face. How long had she been awake?.. Who knew. Who cared.
"Come in," her alto voice spoke, echoing towards the door. She reached down to begin folding some of the maps up to work on them later as her back warmed from the sunlight that broke through the large windows behind her. The Captain was dressed rather informally - obviously 'off duty' for the moment until she lead patrols later in the evening when the sun set. A black long sleeve clung to her form as well as a pair of dark leather, strung pants that tied in the front and tucked into heavier boots beneath her knees. Plain, simple, comfortable.
Her eyes lifted - still cleaning the papers from her desk - towards the door only to see a spiked, feminine head leading through.
"What is it you need?" the Captain's voice exhaled out with quite an exhausted expression.

Brenna heard the voice telling her to come in from the other side of the door. She put her hand on the doorknob. She slowly opened the door and stepped in. She looked at the red haired captain a little shocked by what she was seeing. Bren kept her expression the same as she closed the door behind her. Her spiky hair stayed partly in her face as she looked at the woman. She kept the same expression as calm as she could. Brenna was taller than most that the captain dealt with but seemed more respectful than some newcomers could be.
“Sergeant Brenna Dixon, ma’am. Here are my transfer documents and my file.” She held out the file for her. Brenna stood there watching her. After she took the file, Bren stood with her arms folded over her chest. She was respectful and waited for her new captain look over it. She was still nervous.
She felt the heat go into her hands. Brenna let her breath out slowly making sure she was calm. She felt the heat slowly go back through her body evenly. She didn’t understand why it was acting up. Brenna almost wished she had told someone a long time ago about her gift but it was too late now. For now, she just had to make sure she was calm at all times. Her red eyes watched the captain as she stood with her back against the door. She kept her distance until she had something to say.

CPT. STORY EVE LUMINUS I could be studying. The one who entered, a young woman, seemed a bit edgy from the get-go. Her hand swiftly extended a file and form. Story pulled her brows together and looked down at them before back up at her.“Sergeant Brenna Dixon, ma’am. Here are my transfer documents and my file.” "A transfer?" the captain asked rather lowly. The woman was already very adamant about giving her forms away.. "I've received no word of this.." she thinned her eyes and sighed, walking around her desk to the extended hand. Her's reached up and snatched the papers with dwindling patience before returning to behind the table surface. She placed the folder to the desk, flipping it open and skimming through the list. A good student.. well-trained.. Sergeant, an officer. The transfer form was filled out perfectly and neatly with no complaints. But that was just it... No complaints."What's the reason for this transfer request, Sergeant?" she flicked her serious eyes up at her, head still facing down at the desk. "Or did you come in here hoping I'd just say yes.."The woman's arms were crossed.. which didn't seem all that respectful. Story's palms were placed widely on the wood far apart from the paper as she looked down to read them (now nearly glaring at the soldier in front of her). Why on earth transfer with no complaint? The reason wasn't listed... a blank request save for all the necessary signatures, seals, and base info that needed filled out.

Brenna watched her as she seemed a little annoyed with her. "I do not know why you wouldn't have been. The request has been in for months for." She wasn't trying to be disrespectful. She felt her take her file away a bit forcefully. Bren watched her as she looked over her file. She kept her crimson eyes on the captain. Her eye brows raised when she started to question the reason why she was here and why she wanted to transfer.
"No ma'am. I didn't expect anything. In fact, I expected you to ask me why I would transfer. I needed a little change to my life." She let her arms drop so she didn't seem disrespectful. "I also need a captain that does not mind that I like to keep to myself and not talk about my past." Brenna really hoped she understood what she was talking about but also would understand why the woman would say no if she wanted to. She watched the captain. She didn't know how else to explain herself. She was more nervous than before but she held her ground. She did not want to argue with the captain. She could see her eyes glaring at her though Bren hadn't done anything wrong. She kept her face calm and tried very hard to keep her gift in herself.
Brenna kept her hands at her side now knowing that it hadn't been that respectful to fold them over her chest. "Look, I understand it looks odd to have a request to transfer without a complaint. I didn't really have a problem with my old captain. I just need a new scene. I am a very hard worker and will do whatever needs to happen."She watched the captain. This could go to ways. Either very well or she could say no and go back to her old squad.

CPT. STORY EVE LUMINUS You check out. for now.
"I do not know why you wouldn't have been. The request has been in for months." Well then. That was rather.. hasty. Story's head tilted and her expression deepened a bit. That tone wasn't exactly appreciated... especially not this late in the day. Comfortable clothing and no armor or not - she had a title to be respected. But then, well, if it had been in for months - it certainly said something that this Sergeant got so passionate about it to take the matters into her own hands. Points for courage.."No ma'am. I didn't expect anything. In fact, I expected you to ask me why I would transfer. I needed a little change to my life. I also need a captain that does not mind that I like to keep to myself and not talk about my past." A bit dramatic for the captain's taste. However, she'd probably spent her entire way over here mulling the idea over in her head. Not that she was making excuses for her sake. The keep to herself motivation Story could understand. Wasn't all that hard for her to stay out of business when that's the very thing she wanted for herself. Then again, no one dared these days to ask a fly-away question to the captain."Look, I understand it looks odd to have a request to transfer without a complaint. I didn't really have a problem with my old captain. I just need a new scene. I am a very hard worker and will do whatever needs to happen." She stood up slowly and lifted her thumb and index finger into her eyes, rubbing in slow circles with the other hand propped on her hip. What a night.. The sun was almost setting behind her, an orange and fiery gleam spreading through the room. Dealing with some soldier that just wanted a change of scenery wasn't exactly something she wanted to be doing. Then again.. it'd be more of a hassle to turn her down - especially since she had every other approval she needed. "Hnn... high ranks in your class," she flipped through a paper, relaxing her posture a bit from exhaustion, ".. broadsword training, comments on quick thinking in physical situations.." another page, "Hard worker you say?" a questionable brow lifted as she left the file be. Something had to be tested.. at least something. What, she wasn't sure, but there had to be more to this. Story walked around the desk again with a sigh through her nose before offering her hand to the slightly taller, younger woman."I'll be the judge of that. Captain Luminus," she stared into her eyes with a stiff and straight posture, "We'll have much to talk about before this is all settled... but for now-.." seemed like it was a yes.

Brenna could tell that she was questioning the way she was acting. She wouldn't lie to her about all of this. She had put the request in months ago and it had taken a long time before they had said anything. Bren felt like it was better to take things into her own hands. She knew she needed to do this. Her captain was worried that when she wasn't getting close to people but she wouldn't deal with them prying into her life. She watched her. She saw the light behind her through the window as the captain started up.
She watched her as she read part of her file. Brenna didn't move as she said her different skills. She lifted her eyebrows as she questioned her hard work. She watched her for a little while before she said she would be the judge of that. She watched her walk around to her and held out her hand. She looked down at it before back at her eyes. She shook her hand with her gloved hand. It was odd when the heat from her hand came through the glove. It was hotter than it should have been. She pulled her hand away slowly trying to make sure that she didn't think too much about it. She kept her eyes locked with the captain's. She tried to make it seem she didn't notice the heat.
"Shall I take that as a yes then?" She asked watching her as they stood there. Brenna was trying very hard not to draw attention to the heat that had come off of her. She knew there was probably going to be a test for this but she also knew that she wouldn't have that hard of a time dealing with what she wanted her to do.

CPT. STORY EVE LUMINUS You have secrets? so does the whole damn world.. be careful.
She gripped the woman's leather glove, shaking firmly and strongly. The sergeant shook like a soldier.. good. Story kept her gaze still, but the skin of her hand began to heat and eventually she found herself swallowing with the struggle to keep her expression completely the same as the outer layer of her skin burned only barely. Gifted. Enhanced, enchanted, blessed by the Goddess just as she, herself, was. But there was a difference... the sergeant was hiding it..
Story removed her hand at the question and nodded in response before turning about face and walking behind her desk once more.
"Have a seat," her hand, now a different shade of reddened and scalded irritation, openly offered to the two chairs on the opposite side of her. "We should get right to it.. positions, preferences, payment, housing should you require it.. or a change of it.." she cleared her throat and sat down, scooting the maps away and opening one of the books' covers to stick them inside. This allowed for more room for the files and form which she still ran her eyes down to read.
The captain put an elbow to the desk and rested her cheek within it - her head at an angle - and her eyes flicked up to the spiky-haired woman. "Where were you previously stationed? It says Upper Aster here, but not the sector. What were your duties?"

She felt the tight grip. She shook not because she was afraid of the captain but because of she was afraid of her gift. She felt the heat run down her arm toward her hand as the captain shook her head. She kept her eyes locked with the captain not saying a word. She was glad when she finally let go but stood there. She hoped the captain hadn’t noticed the heat that had happened. She was glad to have the transfer but her expression stayed the same. She wasn’t going to change it.
Her eyes fell on the hand that had burnt a little. Brenna took the seat knowing that she couldn’t have not noticed. “Whatever you need, I will do. Any position and I don’t have a preference. Payment can stay the same and I already have my housing.” She crossed her legs watching her.
“I was in sector three.” She watched the captain with her crimson eyes. “I did whatever need to be done but it was mostly just patrols. The sector was kind of quiet while I was there.” She nodded folding her hands on her lap. She had her sword leaned against the chair beside her. She understood why the captain would be asking so many questions though Bren didn’t usually like to answer them. She sat there waiting for more knowing that her gift might come up. She leaned back in the chair as her eyes flicked down to the file and then back up at her captain.

CPT. STORY EVE LUMINUS WE DON't Do "Small Print"
This was simple enough. No changes necessary.. such an easy transfer. Which meant that something much deeper was beneath the surface. Whatever it was didn't seem to be an issue now but...
"Sector three.." she mumbled, leaning forward over the papers and against her desk though it was quite obvious she was only repeating what she'd heard and thinking heavily on something else. Her fingers, the ones upon the hand free of any redness, tapped against the wood. It was silent for a while as she thought.. and read.. and thought some more..
In a second the tapping stopped and her eyes shut. The captain lifted her head and folded her hands on the surface in front of her. With eyes opening, they stared at the sergeant with an icy expression - sharp and stern. Her voice kept quiet in the dense air of the large room.
"You will find that the things we do are not always 'quiet', Sergeant Dixon. Though patrolmen, we may often be... we march first and foremost as the front line. You understand, I hope, that once this transfer is made - you are acknowledging the dangerous possibilities therein; yes?"
It was interesting that her burnt hand made very little movements along the desk.. not flat against it, a half inch or so from the palm to the wood as her fingertips let it rest. It was obviously injured. She'd noticed, and yet said nothing.
