I AM A MONSTER - BUT I HAVE A SOUL
She felt the hot steel pierce her skin and she let out a cry, yes her senses were a little dull but the pain was still so intensely real. When she heard her voice she bit her lip so she would cri out again until eventually so found herself taking another drink from the bottle. In and out each stitch went but just as quick as it went in he was done. She realised the breath she had been holding “And that was only the first one.” She tried to make light of it but her tone was dark, she wasn’t looking forward to enduring this.
Eventually he had tended to them all, some she groaned loudly over and others she did cry out only to bite her lip again to stifle it. He had begun to mix some herbs, she could tell because she could smell the strange aromas next to her. Feeling the paste on her skin and the bandages covering it she wondered how long she had to bare this. She noted that he hadn’t taken her clothes off to do all the healing work – it was a pleasant realisation because it was true he didn’t actually need too. The damage was mostly on her stomach which was exposed with the attire she wore. “A monstrous murderer hey?” She chuckled softly, her eye closing a moment as she thought about it. Probably was her, she had been described as many things in the bandits eyes but this one was really quite amusing.
Taking the new bottle from him she drank without even asking what was in it. Although the pain was a dullish itch she wanted something to just forget it and she hoped this would do the trick. “That-“ she said between sips “Has a kick!” She took a fair bit then put the bottle beside her. It did do what she wanted, she felt all her senses dull and the pain wasn’t so bad anymore “Sure take your time.” She waved him off as she just lay there thinking about what to do next. She couldn’t move much, she’d tear the stitching, she figured she would have to be at Tristan’s mercy for a while provided he didn’t mind but it wasn’t like Zero could fend for herself in this state. “I wonder how he’s doing…” She said to the quite sky.

Now I'm hungry for foodies.. ❀ | Perhaps luck favored him that night as the few snares he set about during his hunt had proved fruitful. In fact, he had been on his way to check them before he happened across the injured girl, Zero. It was an odd name to be sure but he wouldn't judge. Still, checking his traps hours later would be more beneficial as they might have caught something. That's where the luck came in.
His first snare held a rabbit, more on the lean side that he would of hoped but Winter had only just ended, so it made sense. It was already dead, as the trap he set up would break it necks quickly when it snapped down. His second snare held a squirrel, much smaller than the rabbit but would suffice as a small meal. Grabbing both, he reset his traps and ambled back to his camp and his charge.
He found her exactly as he left her but said nothing. Instead he deposited his gear where he had first put it then moved over by the water. Unsheathing his dagger, Tristan went about skinning both the animals. A memory sparked within his mind, of skinning deer with his late father. It caused him to falter, to mourn that his father was still dead. A brief surge of anger ran through his body and for a split second, a faint greenish aura manifested around him. Just as fast, it was gone, like a trick of the light.
"How are you feeling?" He asked softly when he sat by the fire, and subsequently next to Zero. "Some food will be ready soon, are you hungry?" Tristan removed the fatty meats from each animal and stuck them on sticks to cook by the fire. Occasionally he sprinkled salt and various diced herbs onto them, for seasoning.

I DON'T WANT TO NEED YOU Zero lay there for a while, she couldn’t help it when her thoughts wondered to what she would do now. Somehow she felt lost, or like she lost something today but she couldn’t quite work out what it was. Turning her head from the sky she faced the fire, her eye gazing into and playing out the scene from earlier before she made herself look away. “Where do I go now?” She said as she gazed back at the night sky.
Shifting slightly she moved her arms to her sides, bending them in an effort to sit up but a fresh wave of pain washed threw her and she was forced back down. She actually growled at the pain finding it annoying and inconvenient at the same time. It wasn’t annoying because it hurt it was annoying because for the first time in a long she had to rely on someone else. At least she could thank the Gods that it was a Guardian Solider, maybe Orik was looking at for her after all though she still questioned what he wanted from her.
By the time Tristan had come back Zero was resting with her eye closed, she had tried to stop any thoughts and meditate instead. It actually helped to settle the pain and ease her breathing. When she heard him drop his gear and smelt fresh blood her eye opened and she turned to face the directing it came from. She watched him for a while, skinning the animals he had caught. Zero noticed then something that she thought he might not have wanted her to see for it was quick to come and quick to go. A greenish aura that maybe in time, since she had a lot of time at his mercy now, to ask him.
“It doesn’t hurt as much…” She lied of course, it did hurt even if she did have a higher pain thread hold she was still in pain. Zero thanked that he gave her the stronger drink for she hated to think about the pain she would be in if she had to endure without her sensors dulled. “I don’t think I remember if I ate today…” she said finally. “Yes, I’m hungry but…” Zero took in a deep breath, she hated having to ask this. “I need help to move, the wounds are still fresh and I don’t want to open them…”

So refreshing to do a casual post as opposed to a battle. ❀ | Tristan nodded solemnly, it was good the pain wasn't bothering her as much. She could have been lying for all he knew but it wasn't his place to question. She had two pouches, both filled with liquids that could dull pain and such. So if she thought it was getting out hand, all she had to do was choose. He himself considered her following words carefully, idly glancing at the meat cooking.
"Is there a particular reason you wish to move?" He asked her calmly. "Even with help you might reopen a wound or two, since I had only stitched them not even an hour past."
It's not like he was saying no. In fact, he didn't outright say no. If she had a good enough reason, he would help her but not on the mere whim of just moving. Sure, she was kind of laying in her own blood but it had dried up now and the grass itself was matted down. It would make sense though to put her on something that could offer warmth. His eyes traveled over to his satchel where his bedroll was strapped. He had already decided how the sleeping was to be. She'd get his bedroll and he would sit by the fire with his cloak. To keep watch too.

I DON'T WANT TO NEED YOU
Zero made a face “I’m hungry and it’s hard to eat laying down.” She said finally as the smell of the meat assaulted her sensors. “Besides I need to start moving again, I’ll get stiff otherwise.” Zero was the kind of person that was aware of her body, she knew that she was rather weak in her current state but she was also aware that she needed to make sure that she didn’t just lay here. Although the cuts to her stomach weren’t all deep, she had been bleeding since she got them till only about half hour ago. She almost bled herself dry and it was resulting in her being rather weak and susceptible to pain. “I don’t need to stand just yet, just sit up.”
She wondered if he’d help her, if not she would have to wait till her body replaced the blood she had lost. Though her tummy grumbled and she was becoming restless with each growl it made. This is what in the end gave her the strength to lift herself, thinking that she was just as bad as he was… Again she shifted her arms to her side and pushed on her elbows. There was a tree log just behind her, it must have fallen over in the winter so she made her way there. She felt the pulling of the stitches as she moved but they seemed to hold so she kept going till she had her back on the tree log. “This will do.” She was stubborn, yes she knew it but this actually helped her to regulate blood flow.

she's a bump on a log. ❀ | That made sense, and it was a good enough reason. Tristan wasn't one to eat lying either, even if he was sick in bed. He would have helped her but she seemed to try her hand at independence and did it herself. Insofar as pulling herself partially onto a log. So he shrugged and settled himself back into place.
He did feed the fire a handful of twigs, to keep it going. He'd have to go out later for more wood if he wanted to keep it alive. Though from his estimate, it had an hour or two left. Satisfied with that, Tristan pulled one of the sticks from the fire and sniffed the meat on it. He used his knife to slice off a small piece to taste, then nodded.
"Here, try this. I hope you like rabbit." He said while handing her the stick.
The sinewy rabbit meat on it was probably about three or four ounces worth. Not a lot but there was fat too. There was some more of it, and squirrel too but it would be enough to tide one over. Tristan didn't touch any of the meats, if only to move them away from the fire to avoid burning.
Instead, he pulled his satchel to him, dipped into it and pulled out a small bundle. Unwrapping the bundle revealed a variety of dried fruits and vegetables. This is what he ate. Though he did set it aside momentarily to move over to the stream and fill a leathery pouch with water, then went back to his meal.
"So how is it, any good?"

I DON'T WANT TO NEED YOU The fire would blaze with life again as the man with the dark blue locks of hair had fed it some twigs to give the flames some more substance to crawl, and feed on. Her eye observed him quietly when he reached for the stick that had the decent chunk of meat on it; her stomach reacted with a low growl as her eyes focusing on him waiting for him to finish checking if the meat was ready. In all honesty she couldn’t care less if the meat was raw or not she was so hungry that all she wanted to do was satisfy her primal instinct, and get some food in her so her body could convert it into fuel. When the man was done inspecting the meat he would hand her the stick with the meat on it, the white haired woman would reach for it taking the stick from his hand she was quick to bring it to her already parting lips. Biting down with her front teeth tearing at the warm meat of the rabbit’s flesh, pulling at it she would almost let a hum escape her but managed to catch herself before doing so. Instead she quietly chewed on the meat just a few quick bites before she swallowed the warm chunk of meat, her throat embraced by the heat as it travelled down her throat into her desperately starved belly.
Taking notice of the man’s question she would give him a nod of the head when she had the chance to finally speak, although she much rather just devour this meat that was assaulting her nostrils with its alluring aroma. But still she decided to show some self-control, "Yes, I do like rabbit..." she would pause for a moment biting down on it again unable to resist her primal instinct for much longer as she took a series of other bites practically stuffing her face chewing a cheek full of meat as she worked it around her mouth. Letting the flavour of the wild rabbits lean meat slide across the taste buds of her tongue, when she was done she would swallow the meat again enjoying the sensation of the warm meat running down her throat. Reaching up to wipe her lips with her forearm she would flinch slightly, that single motion reminding her of the injuries that decorated her figure. "...how long will it take for this ointment of yours to heal my wounds?" he asked the man with genuine curiosity in her tone, taking another bite of the rabbits meat waiting for the man to answer her.

| Tristan nodded absently at her response. It was good that she liked rabbit. He did too but only ate it on occasion. For one reason or another, his appetite regarding meat changed constantly. He has put thought into it, linking that off and on preference to his gift. Unfortunately he has nothing conclusive so it's just a thought. Having gone off on a mental tangent, Tristan took a drink of his water and returned to eating his dried fruits. In between bites he glanced at her patched wounds, measuring them.
"A few days at most. That is, assuming they don't get infected." He shook his head then. "They shouldn't though, if the poultices are changed daily. If you'd like, I can stick around under you're healed?"
Tristan turned his attention back to the fire and warmed his hands. The night's chill was beginning to set in, reminding him that Winter was still trying to hang on. He's been through worse though, as he had patrolled Domhan Tir during the previous season. He can handle the cold. Though he was more worried about Zero and her wounds. Hopefully the fire would be enough to ward off the chilly bite.

I DON'T WANT TO NEED YOU “A few days….” She said the words more to herself than to him. She was curious because she wondered if they would scare and she wanted to also have her full fighting fit body back sooner rather than later. When she thought about it, the wounds themselves weren’t that bad it was just that she had lost so much blood that her body had become weak and uncomfortable, it wasn’t often that Zero felt uncomfortable in her own skin but she definitely did now. When he offered to stay with her till they healed she considered this, she was silent on the outside but internally her mind was going through all the scenarios. What if she raged? Could she manage to change all the dressings on her own? What herbs did he use and how could she get them? How long till she wasn’t so weak that standing was a chore due to dizziness?
Eventually Zero came to her conclusion. “Yes. I think that is best.” She was matter of fact in her response, it even sounded like she had calculated all the possible outcomes and knew this was ‘best’. Biting into the last of the rabbit she looked up to the stars, that big idiot coming to her mind again but she quickly pushed him out of it and turned to face Tristan. “In my bag over there I have a wool blanket – can you get it for me?” She figured she wouldn’t be moving from where she was so it was best she just rested right here. Her stomach was full and she was content to let her body get the sleep it needed. So without much prompting she pushed herself of the log slightly, allowing her body to slip down on the ground and move slightly closer to the first – she waited for her wool to keep the nights chill out.

Late post is late. ❀ | He gave her time to consider everything, which in turn gave him time to finish his supper. The aroma of the cooked meat tempted him but he ignored it. He hardly ate any meat, preferring fruits and vegetables. It was only on occasion that he ate any meats. He gave the meat on the sticks only a few looks before taking them off and wrapping them in plants and tying them off with strings. It would keep the air from drying them out too quickly, and set the wrapped meats next to the stream.
At the time when she came to her conclusion, he simply nodded in response. With his own meal finished, he packed the leftover stuff back into his satchel and stood up, throwing the strap over a shoulder. At her request, Tristan retrieved the blanket and draped it over her, as well as grabbing his own bedroll and laying it next to her.
"If you get colder in the night, or require something to prop your head onto, you can use that." Then he picked up his gear and made for the shadowy trees that surrounded them. "I'm going to get more wood. I'll be back shortly." And with that, he vanished into the night.
Finding dry sticks and broken branches wasn't difficult. Once he had an armful, he ambled back to camp. His astute observations made it easier for him to trek back through the shadowed woods, without a light source besides the moon above. Once returned, he put a few pieces of wood into the fire then moved over to one of the nearby trees. It would be easier for him to watch over the camp, and more importantly her, from a higher vantage point. The fire would keep away the smaller critters and his watchful eye from above would guard against the more bold animals of the vast forests.
