Slipping out of the house which held the sleeping gang members of a new up-start crime family. Dakota stashed his loot, a handful of jewelry, and a fair sized bag full of coin. Quietly making his way down the street, pushing past the few drunks still out, he slowly made his way to the outskirts of Zhadrah. Further ahead was a house which held a family of five. One single mother fed all the children by working full time at one of the city's brothels.
Dakota quietly walked up to the door, and pulled out a small burlap sack, filling it with most of the coin and all of the jewelry of that night's raid. He tied it off to the door handle and walked away, slowly making his way back to the dark streets of his home town. Climbing a drain pipe, he made his way to the top of a building, he silently crouched, watching the darkness with keen eyes. Waiting for anything to happen.
He was tired, that was for sure. Bored was an understatement. Most of the things in this city didn't happen this late at night. Maybe tonight will be different. He watched patiently, snacking every now and then on some left overs from the night before.

Zhadrah at night was not some beautiful thing, not serene by any sense of the word. Somewhere in the city, a child would be crying, a man and wife would be yelling-- broken windows would be made, mementos would be stolen. Elliot loved the mega-city all the same. It was home and it, in its familiarity, was comforting. The very thought that the wall separating it from the great expanse beyond had gone down scared Elliot, more than she had admitted to her siblings. Supposedly it was a gift, something to be relished, yet all it gave Elliot was an excuse to be wary. Curious too, but mostly wary. On that particular night, Elliot was rushing to get home, worn coat clutched around her tightly. She had spent the day talking to someone, finding things out as always. Information had a certain sway in Zhadrah. Hhmph. It probably had sway just about anywhere, yep! If you knew about a man you could get him to do juuuust as big-sister Helen wanted. Come to think of it, if you could find a woman's secrets, she too would become pliable. Already, Elliot was late getting home. Later than she had intended and she couldn't have Helen getting worried. No, no, no. That wouldn't have been fair at all! She would be back to Gigas territory before she knew it at this rate, though. It was close. Just..just a little longer. So long as there were no interruptions in any case. night time walks, 249 words

Dakota heard her before he saw her. A young woman running down the street. Deciding that there was nothing better to do at the moment, he slid down the drain and followed her a little ways, concealed in the shadows of the passing buildings.
Usually the populace of Zhadrah were close to there homes at a time like this. He cut through an alleyway as a shortcut, leaning against the corner he waited for her to catch up. Sure enough he had guessed her path perfectly, as she came down the road past him.
"Seems a little late for a Midnight scroll miss, don't you think? Or are you just headed back to Gigas territory? Seems a shame that a young woman like yourself would be involved with them."
He watched for her reaction, careful to keep one hand on his dagger beneath his cloaks. If he was correct with his guess, then she would have made it back to Gigas territory in a few more moments. Most gang activities take place at night after all.

Home was close. Yeah. Then Elliot would have to explain to Helen why she had been so late. That was okay though, because Elliot felt that she had been doing something useful and as such that her delay was perfectly excusable. Before she could get much closer to her destination, however, she was being addressed. Elliot came to a stop, spinning about on her heels to face the speaker, her eyes squinting in the dim light of the city to try and make him out. Certainly he was strangely dressed and the way he spoke...was he trying to scare her? Elliot let herself smile all the same, wriggling her fingers about in her gloves "It wouldn't be a midnight stroll if it wasn't late out, silly." And a finger was waggled in his direction, as though Elliot were chastising the stranger for his mistake. If he thought Elliot was just going to admit being affiliated with Gigas then he was going to be sorely disappointed. She didn't know him and thus it was none of his business where she was going or what she was doing. Strangers were dangerous and you couldn't just tell them everything about you all at once. Even Elliot knew that. "Besides, I could ask you the same thing, mister. Do you always go 'round tryin' to spook people? 'Cause you're not very good at it." boo, 231 words
