The sound of the wheels rolling in the dirt was a familiar one, along with the footprints of the kath strolling through the open fields. If it wasn't for the sense of familiarity when she was picked up as a kitten, she would most likely be uncomfortable, but now it seemed really commonplace to be out in the open. However, the long jurneys were always a pain, especially leaving from the snow-flooded landscape of Hyrst, where her winter instincts told her to hibernate. It was cruel on her, but she was always allowed a week's rest from point A to B. She deserved it at least. That, and a big leg of meat to chew on.
Speaking of meat, Douken could hear his stomach grumble, having the kath look upwards. "Don't worry about me," he told Starr in his animalistic tongue, "This is nothing. Besides, our destination is coming up. We can get the rest and food we need there." It was alwayscomingup, technically, as long as they moved. Still, this time, it was a god reality as an hour later, the small trader was about to see one of the more famous trade cities in the west cost: Baem.
After more quiet travel, the pair finally reached the gates, meeting the city guards. usual routine: they check the goods to make sure he as carrying nothing dangerous, the newbies in the force jump at the sight of the kath (always an amusing site, no matter how many times he has to talk them into putting away their weapons), getting set up place for a temp shop and residence, then let the sales commence for as long as he feels needed.
Hopefully, today's guards would be the ones aren't so jumpy, just cause how hungry they were and how much the fox-boy's stomach grumbled.

breakfree. She's close; so close that she can taste freedom in her lips, on her tongue, darting down her throat and up her nostrils; K-Z tilts her head and breathes in a ragged breath, feeling the justified rush of air into her lungs. She is being looked for but nobody knows exactly what she looks like save a very specific group of people. She will not go back. K-Z is certain of this; she will tear out her own organs and bring about her death in a gruesome fashion rather than go back and be surgically dismantled like some machine. She tilts her head and steps forward, her feet light upon the ground. The gates rumble open slowly and she watches the traveler who enters with some great cat.
She'd apologize for what she was about to do, but K-Z felt no sorrow. There is a great predatory cat. K-Z pauses and thinks, and she remembers the lesson from the tank. Kath: a Kath is a carnivorous creature that is notorious for being hard to kill. Primitive Tirians wear Kath pelts as clothing.
K-Z takes a moment to stare, quietly, and then she peers: perhaps the easiest way out will be to just...ask. Maybe she won't have to frame the Tirian. "Hail, guard! I need to leave Baem. I have a cousin in Domhan Tir that is ill, I've just gotten word! I need to be there for him." Her eyes are soft and full of near-tears and K-Z is shaking softly, and much to her glee, the gates open. She steps out.
"...you're from Domhan Tir, right? Have you heard of a Jayze?" Her arms press behind her back. "I hope you have--he's not well at all..." |

Seemed these guys weren't easy to jump, as they simply went with their jobs as two of them approached him: one to check the goods as the other came to check his papers. However, as they seemed to of gone investigating, a woman came up to Douken and Starr. She was a young and pretty gal with orange hair flowing down her back, but she seemed too hasty in wanting to know some information before introductions.
"Jayze, hmm?" Crossing his arms and bowing his head, he thought back on some of the customers he had before popping his head up. "Oh, I know now! He got me a good deal on some pelts, which I was able to trade over in Hyrst. Hopefully they can make some warm coats with it. But not well?"
His train of thought had to been interrupted for a moment as the guards came up to him with the paperwork he had to sign, telling him on where he could stay and store the cargo and Starr while he stayed. Giving his thanks with a tip of a couple copper coins to each, he turned his attention back to the female.
"Anyways, when I was doing business with him, he seemed perfectly healthy. Hell, he's one of those hunters that jokes about the battle scars he gets in his hunts, so I am sure he wouldn't fall so easily to illness. How did you hear of this?"

breakfree. K-Z is not so heartless as to think of wishing harm upon the man who has bungled, or at least, partially maimed, her escape plan; she is also not so innocent as to say nothing about it. Her eyes close and she gives a relieved sigh, a hand bringing up to her forehead, where she touches and holds. "You--say he was okay, when you last saw him? How long ago was that?" Every bit the concerned relative, she looks at the traveler and flushes, her lips twitching in nervousness. "I got the letter this morning. I decided I'd need to set out immediately! Jayze is strong, but if he's been taken by sickness, it is paramount he be helped!"
The guards aren't paying any attention, and so K-Z is assuaged; she is going to be safe, as long as she talks her way out of this one. Her skin twitches, and she touches it, feeling the goosebumps. (They were going to take that from you, K-Z. They were going to peel it back.) K-Z doesn't want to think about that, and so she looks to the boy, her eyes flick to the Kath. "...that's a Kath, isn't it. Ah, nevermind that. Tell me what Jayze looked like when you saw him? Did he...was he healthy-looking?" It would make sense for a concerned relative to ask such questions, wouldn't it? Even though they were said and K-Z doesn't feel too much attachment to them, her acting is convincing.
It would be. She has no personal ties anymore; the ones she held close are dead, and the few alive? They'll be dead soon. Twenty-five brothers and sisters, all gone. "...if you have supplies you'd be willing to lend for my trip, that'd be appreciated--but I could also make the journey without them. It'd just be--more of a help." |

"Let's see..." With his ears flicking, Douken's mind went through his route, keeping mine the number of moons and suns that had past while moving and the times he had rest. With his finger pointed at the sky, it seemed like he was trying to draw out a map on the sky. "We stopped there... had an incident there... another rest stop there... I think it was about a month's time as well, maybe an extra week. But you should of seen him. Even though the medicine man told him he was lucky his wounds didn't get infected, he was full of energy, bragging about his scars. It was hilarious!
"But why would he send a letter all the way out here if he was sick? Mail carriers take the same trade route unless crazy or a national emergency, and if you need to get back, the road is just as long. I can wish you luck and keep an eye out for beasts, but if he is sick, then by the time you get there, he would be fine or died of the disease." Still, the look in her eye did not seem to drop. She was determined to get out of here to help. And going out there alone, unprepared?
"I can't give you things for free, but I am sure I can cut you a deal. I mean, I can't give away merchandise, they are meant for a return." Hopping off the back of the kath and into the cart, he began to scurry though the items, muttering to himself about things like how to keep warm and simple hunting supplies. However, as he did, the black cat did not stop staring at the unknown woman, making sure she wouldn't do anything like run off with the supplies he was setting up. "Okay, I think I got a good about of goods here to sustain your journey, but it won't make you immortal. And please, if you do kill an animal for food, please give Orik his blessing and thanks and use every piece. Now, why don't we talk numbers and see what we can get."
