He was clamming up. He didn't have the same aura of happy cheerfulness of before. That last answer had seemed crisp and cool... almost as if he'd wished she'd never spoke of any of it. Her mind turned the last few hours over in her head. For him to change so drastically... did he suspect the same thing she did? If that were so... then it was probably close to the mark, if not spot on.
But if he clammed up it didn't matter what she thought; she couldn't confirm anything if he shut himself down now, at this crucial point. Change the subject. Get his mind on something more interesting.
She tossed him a sweet, beguiling smile and tilted her head to immitate coyness.
"You didn't take your turn... are you trying to trap me...? Trying to give me a penalty so you can punish me? Hehehe... you're very sly, Grayson... It's cute."
She took a sip and mid sip her eyes widened... She glanced over at him and counted on her fingers, face flushing a little. "... I just did two more... You got me!"
Would he rise to the bait? She didn't know at this point. She might have run this game into the ground for him. But in any case she had to try to keep him talking. If he kept talking an important detail might come forward to confirm her suspicions. However, if he shut down and closed out on her, then it'd be like poking at a dead body. Hardly enlightening and a lousy form of entertainment. She poured him more of the red liquid and then herself as well.
"Well... I guess you decide then... My punishment." She gave him a small grin and licked her lips softly in anticipation. Oh, she could take her licks, sure enough. She'd known true torment before. Never would she feel that way again. Nothing could compare to it. But he, the innocent lamb, probably had no idea what kind of pain it was to be so betrayed. She waited for his response. Would he go through with what he wanted? Or would he back down in his gloomy mood?

Grayson sat quietly, his mind going a million different directions at the fastest speed possible. He wasn't... he wasn't divine? His birth into this realm didn't fit Tamesis' description of the birth of a deity...
His thoughts went back to his conversation with Brynne on the docks - it felt like that had taken place an eternity and a half ago. He had asked her the biggest question to ever cross him mind: Was I someone before now? It had been simply out of curiosity that he had wanted to know. He had asked about death, too, that day. His question had frozen Brynne on the spot, her green eyes just staring at him like he had done the unthinkable.
...or like she had done the unthinkable...
Tamesis' smile would have gone unnoticed had that thought not formed in his head. He was going to ask something of this goddess, something that Brynne had been too shocked, or too scared, to answer. But then she spoke, and her words dripped like honey.
You didn't take your turn - are you trying to trap me? Trying to give me a penalty so you can punish me? She laughed, and it was harmonious. You're very sly, Grayson. It's cute. He was shaking his head at her questions, but the way his name slipped off the tip of her tongue...
It was unlike anything he'd ever known.
"I wasn't trying to trick you," he said as the divine realized that she'd just asked two questions out of turn. Grayson himself hadn't even taken in the fact that she had broken the rules.
The young Speaker drained his glass as soon as Tamesis had filled it, setting the empty tumbler to the site. She was watching him again, smiling, her tongue caressing her lips.
He averted his eyes.
Well, I guess you decide then. My punishment.
Would he ever have this kind of chance again? Grayson's mind seemed to be on overdrive. Her punishment?
Easy.
"Okay," he said as he leaned forward, eyes on Tamesis as she lounged in front of him. "Here's the deal: You tell me everything you know about what happened to me, about my creation, about Brynne, everything. If I'm happy with what I hear---" Could he really do this? "I'll...I'll kiss you."
What other option did he have?

"Okay," he said as he leaned forward, eyes on Tamesis as she lounged in front of him. "Here's the deal: You tell me everything you know about what happened to me, about my creation, about Brynne, everything. If I'm happy with what I hear---" Could he really do this? "I'll...I'll kiss you."
Tamesis stared at him blankly for a moment. Everything she knew? They'd be here for eons recounting all the ways not to make a lightbulb if he had any idea what she actually knew. And if she explained everything, he'd run the other way without question. They all did, the instant they found out who's fault it was. But... maybe... he didn't need to know EVERYTHING... Just enough to ... jumpstart his memory?
"Hmmm... This may take some time... if you want to know everything I know..." She sipped her liquor again and leaned back looking up at the stars in her sky. "...Brynne was born of a world of chaotic storms. Of the rage of the wind and the tranquility of the rain. Until recently, she'd worked so hard at giving to the humans that she'd almost become one. She put her divinity down beneath the surface, and though she didn't have much contact with humans, she didn't much behave as a deity either. It was during this time..." she paused. How to explain this without giving him too much information about herself...
"It was during this time that there was a small ... oddity... in the universe. Immortals all have souls. It's the part of them that has the similarity to our beings. Everything else about them is different from us, but souls... souls are universal. Our souls, the divine souls, are linked directly to our elements. Should that connection ever be severed, we would be no more than a mortal. Such things have happened before... but remaking that bond has yet proven impossible, even for me."
She took a deep breath. "However... I believe there is a way... some way... to rekindle that bond somehow. If that ever becomes possible, things would change drastically for the world. For all mortals, I think." She lapsed for a moment into silence.
"...It happens once in a while that one or two of my souls that I have collected from the mortals will be pulled back into the world. Some call it reincarnation... haunting or unfinished business... in some worlds it has other uses... but all the same... it happens because I don't keep them under lock and key as prisoners. I collect them for a reason. Into my element so that they can be preserved." She took a deep breath. "If I'm right about what's happened... I may or may not be... I think you were created from one of these souls. However... if that were the case... I have no idea how she... how Brynne... would have pulled that off. I've done many things to try to recreate the bond between mortality and immortality... many...many... great things... but none of them have ever succeeded."
Brynne probably didn't even realize what she'd done was so significant. Probably didn't know what it was she was dealing with, sadly. And yet Tamesis struggled to determine what it was that she herself had not done so that she could complete the formula to get to the same result. Why had Brynne succeeded and not herself?
"I think your soul is a recycled soul. I think that you were probably once mortal and were changed by Brynne's power into something more."
She looked up at him quietly for a moment before a small smile spread over her face. "But hey... life's better on this side anyway. Trust me on that one."
The dark goddess leaned forward then, sitting up so that her legs draped over the side of the table she had been sitting on. "Does that answer please you?"

Her blank stare had him worried. He'd asked too much... Hmmm... this may take some time... if you want to know everything I know. Grayson was quick to shake his head as the goddess drank. "Not everything you know about everything, just... what you know about Brynne. And how she managed to create me."
Tamesis looked up to the sky she had created at a whim, lips parting to tell him a story of Brynne, the goddess born of the thundering stone, and a chaotic storm. He'd never guessed that Brynne was capable of such mayhem. But she was also of the tranquil rainfall. Until recently, she'd worked so hard at giving to the humans that she'd almost become one. She put her divinity down beneath the surface, and though she didn't have much contact with humans, she didn't much behave like a deity either.
Now that sounded familiar. Grayson found himself identifying with that. He spent more time with the humans, walking among them and interacting with them, that he hardly ever did anything regarding the divines. He barely knew a thing about the realm they inhabited, always choosing the dirt over the dimensions.
After all, it's where he felt like he belonged... he never felt like much of a deity...
She said that immortal souls were connected with their element... He didn't have an element, a source... Things were slowly starting to make sense in the mind of the young Speaker... He hadn't simply just came to be at Brynne's summoning. He'd been created, somehow, from something.
And it had the other divines confused.
Grayson wasn't hearing what Tamesis was saying anymore, his head was spinning and he felt like he was going to be sick. His fingers still toyed with the hem of his shirt, giving him something to do so that he didn't go absolutely insane. He wasn't normal, not even for the gods... Was there a place in this world for him? Or would he just continue to not belong no matter where he went?
...I've done many things to try to recreate the bond between mortality and immortality...many, many, great things, but none of them have ever succeeded...
His bright blue eyes stared holes into her porcelain face. "Why?" he asked, eyes almost empty of all emotion. He was shutting down. He knew he was. Grayson blinked. He wouldn't allow himself to shut down.
He shifted positions, giving his head a shake as he pulled himself together. Whatever it was that he was, he was the first. Taking a deep breath, he shook his head again and turned his attention back to the goddess of darkness, just as she was beginning to speak again. I think your soul is a recycled soul. I think that you were probably once mortal and were changed by Brynne's power into something more.
"Wha---...." His heart sunk, even though all the pieces of this puzzle that had been shifting around in his head had pointed towards something of this nature being the explanation behind his existence... he didn't like hearing it. He had been mortal. He had been a simple human... one of Brynne's? If he'd been able to keep his body language and face devoid of emotion before, he was a lifeless statue now. But hey, life's better on this side anyway. Trust me on that one.
But what if he had a family? Surely he had a family - how could he not? Grayson took another deep breath, as if his lungs were refusing to work on their own.
Then she was back to the game, leaning towards him. Does that answer please you? Grayson nodded, shifting again so that he was as close as he could get to Tamesis without actually touching her. "Yes," he said before pressing his lips against hers, one arm wrapping around the goddess' waist.
This sensation was unexplainable, and it was intoxicating. Deepening the kiss, Grayson held the divine close to him before pulling away, eyes studying hers for a moment or two before landing on the ground.
He had so many questions... and he had this... this anger. It was strange and foreign... and...
It was towards Brynne.

Grayson nodded, shifting again so that he was as close as he could get to Tamesis without actually touching her. "Yes," he said before pressing his lips against hers, one arm wrapping around the goddess' waist.
Her mouth molded to his and she breathed in his warm, moist breath, tasting his soul, searching it for a hint or a sign. His warmth was nice... He was a gentle but very affectionate sort if this kiss was anything to go by. But she was reveling in something other than the flesh passion that rolled through him...
His energy... it was linked to his country in a primal way... as if Brynne had attempted to literally connect the land's energy to this man... Was that possible? It was also not unlike kissing Brynne herself, as Tamesis imagined it... the scent of storms and wind swept through her senses as she indulged in the action.
When they separated she gave him another kiss on his nose, giving him a soft thanks for the opportunity to examine him with his guard down.
"...So pleasant... You are a very... warm lover, I think. If your energy is anything to go by... you'll be a very primal lover... With all the wilds of Hyrst flowing through your veins... storms, winds and fires." She winked softly before leaning back, her skin flushed a little bit with the excitement of the kiss.
She expected Brynne would come running with the scent of the intermingling of two energies in that way. She gave a small grin to herself. It would be magnificent to be challenged again...
"...I suppose it's my turn... but the only question I have at this point... is if you're a virgin..." She licked her lips again, turning the bottle asside. "...You taste of ... an earthy masculinity... and it's been a while for me..."

The kiss wasn't anything Grayson would quickly forget. In fact, he didn't want the contact to end. The feeling of her body against his, her soft lips on his... it was intoxicating, addicting... It was arousing.
It was a sensation that ended all too soon, and the young Speaker found himself wanting more. He didn't understand it, couldn't comprehend it. This attraction towards Tamesis, while he knew what it was, he didn't truly know what it meant to be attracted to someone. All he had known before this day was Brynne. And now he knew Brynne and Tamesis. Brynne had lied to him, kept his origin a secret from him. He didn't like Brynne at the moment.
But Tamesis... she had told him what he wanted to know, revealed how he had been created when asked. He liked Tamesis.
He blinked as the goddess of the darkness kissed him softly on the nose, his head tilting slightly to one side in a very confused manner. In all of his wanderings around Hryst and his venture into Zhadrah, he had no true grasp on how attraction worked. His ever-curious mind had soaked up the terms used in relationships just as he had in every other aspect of mortal life. His bright blue eyes found the ground, staring intently at the legs of the table, the cushions Tamesis reclined on, gaze flitting between anything but the divine before him.
So pleasant. The goddess' first words didn't really help his confusion and his brows furrowed as he stared holes into the floor. You are a very warm lover, I think. If your energy is anything to go by, you'll be a very primal lover... with all the wilds of Hryst flowing through your veins... storms, winds, and fires...
Grayson raised his eyes to meet hers just as she winked at him. Her wink sent a chill down his spine, but not one that raised any alarms or red flags in the Speaker's mind. He could feel heat rise to his cheeks as she resumed her previous lounging position.
What was he supposed to do now? He could get up and leave, but he didn't exactly know where he was, let alone how to get back to where he had been standing before the darkness had opened up to him. The young Speaker stayed where he was, silently watching the deity as she spoke up one last time.
I suppose it's my turn... The game... of course. Tamesis was still playing the game, and so was he. Grayson nodded at her words, to give the divine confirmation that it was, indeed, her turn. But the only question I have at this point is if you're a virgin. He went through the catalogue in his brain, finding what that word meant... You taste of an earthy masculinity...and it's been a while for me...
"I am." It was his turn in this game they were playing, a game that Grayson was trying to figure out if he was still enjoying or not. His thoughts went to the kiss and the open nature of Tamesis' shirt.
Yes. He was enjoying this game.
"Why do you ask?"

"I am. Why do you ask?"
Tamesis laid back upon the cushions and closed her eyes. The skyscape above them began melting down and covering the floor and the room seemed to suddenly be made of glass, the walls and floors showing the universe as if they were floating out in space. The door was open and there was only darkness within, like an eerie shadow with nothing beyond. Tamesis knew that if Grayson chose to leave that way, he would find himself right back where he had been when this whole thing had started. Right outside the palace. But did he want to go that way?
His question lingered. However, there was more pressure from elsewhere that stilled her tongue for a moment as she considered. She could feel it. He probably couldn't, he was too young. But though Brynne was not present and bearing down on them, she was sending a very clear message to Tamesis through her will to cease and desist before there was a bigger problem than she wanted to deal with. Brynne obviously knew little of Tamesis if she were telling her not to push these buttons. However...
The fact that Grayson's energy was undertoned with Brynne's own made her curious...
"...Because you're an attractive young man. Strong, sturdy and rugged. Any girl with eyes would know you're attractive. However, you've been marked by Brynne. I can taste her aura, just beneath your own. If she has marked you, I don't know if us being intimate... and I marking you myself... would harm you. I wouldn't want to do that."
She was being honest in this. If Grayson was who and what she thought he was and she injured him by doing something foolish... or destroyed him by pushing Brynne too hard...
She needed him alive for questioning. For observation. For holding over Brynne's head to get the information she needed.
Because one question still resounded in her mind loudly. How had he been created? What was that secret thing she needed that Brynne had? She didn't know and she was having so much trouble sifting through her vast knowledge to determine...
Could she piss Brynne off enough to get her to talk?

The very lighting of the room seemed to shift, not change completely but not stay one bit the same as it had been before. His first thought was to look up at the skyscape that Tamesis had been toying with just as she toyed with him. But when he did, he realized that it wasn't just the ceiling covered with the visions of space and the galaxies, it was the entire room. All four walls seemed to have disappeared - was this the dimension of the gods? Grayson had hardly spent any time there... he wouldn't know what to compare it to.
All he could do was look from the goddess to the stars around him. Both were bright, beautiful, commanding his attention. Everywhere he looked, he was in utter amazement of everything he saw. He noticed a door - the same door he'd been pulled through upon arrival. It was open, and darker than he remembered it to be. Was he sure it was the same door?
How could he be certain of anything anymore?
Because you're an attractive young man. Strong, sturdy, and rugged. Any girl with eyes would know you're attractive. Heat rose to the young Speaker's cheeks at Tamesis' words. He wasn't used to getting compliments such as these. "Thank you." As always, his words were quiet. However, you've been marked by Brynne. That got Grayson's attention on the divinity of the dark, eyebrows knitted together. "Marked? I don't understand..." Brynne had marked him? Had he known about it? Or had it occurred before he became aware? I can taste her aura, just beneath your own. That only confused him even more.
He was so confused... If she has marked you, I don't know if us being intimate... and I marking you myself... would harm you. I wouldn't want to do that. Grayson blinked as he suddenly understood what Tamesis meant. Being intimate was the same as marking someone, at least that's what he was getting from all of this. He shook his head, bright blue eyes remaining on Tamesis'... he raised his gaze just a bit to meet her eyes. "Brynne and I have not been intimate."
